Sickly has had a brass/carbon "ceramic" clutch for several years. It is not as smooth as organic, but works OK on the street. I use it for hunting, towing, daily driving. Personal preference.

Thanks Joe, i want to get a ceremic 1000 ft lb from TST, I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't chatter the trk to death. I only have this kind of clutch exp. in big truck's and was curious if it carried over.

I just pull a car trailer once in a while. ( bout 5000 lb) sounds like it'll do what i need.

Proram :D :)

sschwanger,

Being a clutch supplier I originally tried to supply the button clutch because I thought it was needed to take care of the 1000-foot lb. of torque. I then replaced about 30 clutches because the customers were unhappy, some didn't mind the chatter but most did. Reverse is a bear. In my opinion a button style of clutch is not needed to accommodate the higher hp and torque. You should not have to sacrifice drivability to handle that.

P. S. This probably sounded like a sales pitch and after I reread it, it kind of did. That was not my intention. Sorry.

Do your research and feel good about your decision. TST is a great company.

I have the Southbend Con O clutch which is organic and it holds my 390hp real good and is as smooth as stock, great clutch.

I just instaled a Con-O from South Bend a couple weeks ago and love it. Smoother than stock. Not sure how this compares to pickups, but the ceremic clutches in semi trucks drove me crazy for many years untill I bought my last truck which is smooth. They had no slipage at all, and trying to hook up to a trailer could be lots of fun. They would last forever though.

www.enterpriseengine.com has several clutchs available, you may want to check them out also.

I am running their full blown pulling clutch, and it is more streetable than my last two "Hi-Po" clutches. Glad I found those guys.

Do a search, you won't find any posts on Mitchell clutches failing. Oo.

Proram, I am running the TST 1000# clutch,it chaters a bit nothing to bad. My truck is the same year as yours and your pressure plate probobly isn't worn out either,TST just sold me the ceramic disk for $250. I used it with my factory pressure plate it hook up real nice. I also tow alot of trailers with no problems.

Thank you all for your input, now i just have to decide which one to use. every vender i've heard about on here has a super reputation. hard to pick one over other. My best est. is i'm looking at 450 hp at motor (or more) truck only has 8800 mi. (Peter, sales pitch or not i very much appreciatte it. ) If i keep the UFM on 1 for now how long do you guys think the stock cluth will last? LOL

That really isn't a bad question, My advice to all is drive that sucker until it won't pull anymore (as long as you don't get stuck with a tow bill :D ) because it won't cost you any more or less to do it later. If the clutch is working now... . use it!!

My south bend dual O-FE (i think) works great. It still has a wee bit of chatter sometimes (nothing terrible), but there is only about 600 miles on it.

I ran my stock clutch (slipping) until 125k miles!
