I was driving home tonight and had to stop at a stop sign. When I tried to go, I couldn't get into any gear. I figure the clutch didn't work. After about 30 seconds, I was able to get into gear and leave. It didn't happen again but the clutch pedal seems "soft?" and it seems to be a little rougher getting into gear as I shift.

What should I look for?

Truck has about 22,000 miles.

The same thign happened to me. I replaced my slave cylinder and that cured the problem. If I was going to do it all over I'd replace the whole system. NAPA sells the master and slave cylinder as a set and it's a simple install. You can check to see if the slave cylinder is bad by going underneath the truck and lookg for fluid leaks. The slave cylinder is the black tube about 6" long sticking out of the bellhousing on the driver's side. The hydraulic hose runs up the firewall to the master cylinder on the driver's side.

Slave cylinder went out in mine. My experience was that the clutch didn't engage when i pressed on it. As a result i had to start out on the "go" in first and when stopping i had to shut off the engine as i couldn't get it out of gear. Wouldn't you know this was towing a load of horses back from oregon.

If you are going to replace your Clutch slave cyl. replace both master an slave assembly intact. Don't disconnect the lines.

Go to a shop that installs clutch upgrades and you will find a box full of the entire assemblies intact. They usually throw them out as scrape. good luck.

'01 with 22,000 miles spells warranty work to me.

Try the dealer in Brighton, they are pretty good with our trucks, and they don't try to get out of warranty work.

Ditto what mgoncalves said.

See Johnsons Auto Plaza, they are really good people. If you go ask for Matt Boone, he is the Sales Manager, tell them Jeff Randol sent you. Or you can ask for Patrick, he is the service manager. They will definetely bend over backwards to help you.
