Not necessarily, mine would make the noise very intermittently at first. Like only when in reverse. Later, the noise was more consistent until it make it on every shift. My pilot bushing was totally shot which allowed the input shaft to flop around when the clutch was not engaged. A new 13" flywheel, roller pilot sealed bearing and a new input shaft, a mainshaft upgrade with new bearings and syncro, with a SB Con OF solved my problems. I'm good for another 100,000 hopefully.
