Howdy,

Okay, my truck will not start when you press the clutch; even crammed to the floor. But if I reach under the dash and pull the switch toward the seat till it stops, my truck will crank fine. I crawled under the there to have a look see and it seems that (like I read in the archives) that the eyelet on the pushrod for the mast. cylinder is worn sorta out-of-round. Or the rod it rides on is worn? What should I do? Put a spacer under the switch? Remove the whole assemblage(sp?) and do some welding? Sorry its so long, any help is appreciated.

Thanks, Steve

I wired mine to a push button mounted on the dash right above the hood release. I push the clutch in press the button and turn the key - problem solved at a cost of about $5. 00 for the push button. :D :D

Thanks Bob,

yeah I forgot about straight wiring it. Only thing is I worry about if someone else drives it(happens on occasion) they might not habitually push in the clutch or make sure its out of gear before starting it.

Thanks, Steve

safety switch

Welcome to the world of trucks that last well beyond the normal period of time where others are junked. This is not a procedural answer but my opinion. Don't straight wire it. The Cummins is really strong and as you know will start instantly. It can do serious damage before you get your foot on the clutch. Chances are you will have put the transmission in low or reverse which is bulldozer strong. First and last you or someone will forget to push the clutch. A similar situation can exist on farm tractors and there have been disasterous and deadly result from cranking the equipment in gear. SO FIX IT WHATEVER IT TAKES.

I also have an interlock switch that is hidden and locks out the starter. I find this acts as a mental reminder about having all the required pieces in place. Since I am the only one that has ever driven my truck it has not been a problem for me.

Steve,

A few weeks ago I had the same prob. There is a thread a few pages back named "clutch pedal". You might want to check that.

clutch / starter interlock

I like Bobs' method. As long as you have the interlock and must do "something" to complete the circuit, then you have fixed it. As you will note from many other post, fix is not always the way Dodge did it. A hidden switch will also be a theft deterent.

I had a problem with my clutch interlock/starter relay a about a month ago. Rather than sit in the really cold weather and try to play w/ the wiring diagram I just wired a push button into the ashtray to start the truck.

Only my wife and I drive the truck. I would just wire something similar in so that way ppl cant hop in and turn the key.

Also helps as an anti theft device.

EDIT: I will fix it when it gets warmer. I will wire in a diffrent type of anti-theft device then.
