I lost my clutch. Couldn't get her into gear without really pushing on the stick. I took it to the dealer and the tech checked it out and said the clutch slave was leaking oil. I have an appointment to get the whole system replaced on Tuesday. Has anyone else had this problem?

FYI, the clutch system (master cylinder, hose, slave cylinder) come as a complete assembly, so what the dealer is telling you sounds sane. Once the system is installed on the vehicle, there is no service that can be done to it... it's a sealed unit from the factory. :)

Does this mean it can't be blead to get that old fluid out of there every so-many years?

I believe this is a correct statement... it cannot be bled and refilled. There is no bleed port on the slave (or master).

I agree, I had to replace one on my 99 2500 because the clutch pedal would pull up off the ball socket under the dash. Even to fix that problem I git an entire factory sealed unit to replace the worn ball joint, no other way to get the part!!

There is another way!

There is another way!

On my 99 there is a pin you needed to push out with a punch on both the Slave and Master cylinders where the line attaches. Then you can remove the slave or master from the fluid line. The system does come apart. You can purchase new Slave and Master cylinders seperately from Peter at South Bend Clutch much cheaper than Napa or the dealer.

The slave cylinder you have to fill with fluid then attach the line to it. Then install it. After it's installed, slowly work the clutch peddle up and down, the air will rise to the master cylinder and the system will be ready to go! The master cylinder will bleed its self out. :D Oo.

Been there and done that several times.

Now for the 3 gens, I haven't looked at their system, however, I bet it is the same.

As far as I am aware, the systems are identical 2nd gen / 3rd gen.

Ford has the same stupid system. My old Benz has a bleeder and a master and slave cylinder that you can hone out. You can rebuild all you want.
