While towing my 5th wheel (10,000 lbs) on a flat section of highway, it appears that my clutch is slipping. I'll be going along at 65 mph, 1900 rpm, and 65 mph. The next thing I see is the rpm rapidly increase to about 2400 rpm and the truck slows down. I'll push the clutch pedal in and then release it. It takes a couple of seconds for the clutch to re-engage.

This has happened three times now. I'll tow up hill just fine without this happening. I've accelerated up hill just to test the clutch and it doesn't slip.

Any ideas of why I'm getting a slipping problem on level ground? Maybe it's not the clutch slipping????

This is a stock truck... :(

rpm

I thought all the roads in Mississippi were flat. ;)

I first slipped my clutch (with a box) completely accidentally. It slips much easier at low rpm-where the torque is. It won't slip (as much) if I stay off full throttle until after 2k or so.

So if you were geared down going up the hill, that may be your case too. Same gear, load, and rpm and it wouldn't make sense at all.

And being totally stock-I'd say you have a crappy or worn out clutch. Mine won't slip on 3x5 at any rpm and it's stock.

The OEM clutchs vary quite a bit in their load handling ability.

Call Peter and get a SouthBend.

Then you'll be ready for some FUEL:D

At the Texas Rally, Peter taught us a lot, and I had a front row seat. :D I learned myself something new that day!!! Plus if I DID have to waste my time at the drag strip, and shift, then I would get a Southbend.
