I did the Edge Comp box not to long ago,,,,, and the clutch slipped in 5th and 6th on 5x5 from day on,,,, so i just get it about 2 grand before i step on it. my buddy got and edge comp for christmas (yesterday) he has a 99 so 5 speed with 3. 55's and 35's and 35000 more miles on his clutch and his dosent slip. My truck has got a better clucth that his. is it just the difference between the HO plus COMP vs. SO plus COMP. I know i should be over the 400 hp mark at the flywheel (305 plus 120 = 425) Just curious or your thoughts,,,,

P. S. where is the best deal on a South Bend and which one should i get . I do a good bit of towing and plan on Injectors very very soon

o1HO trucks are only 245 hp not 305. non HO trucks were 235hp. Talk to southbend directly they will set you in the right direction!! Chris

Trey call South Bend and talk with Peter... ... . my guess is he will recommend a 13" upgraded Con OFE (450HP rating). Leave's room for growing for when you add injectors... . and maybe a turbo.

I think he will suggest the 13" because you do a bit of hauling for your car lot and you will be around/over the 8K weight limit on standard 12" clutch disc.

That's probably what will suit you best for what you will be doing with that truck, and you can't go wrong with a South Bend clutch. I have a dual disk in your old truck ;) and I love it, also had a 13" FE in my old truck and loved it too but it was grabby with only 430HP on 550hp rated clutch. :-laf

Oh by the way the truck gets stacked Friday morning..... I'll send ya some pics!

I thought I read the 5 speeds came with a better clutch in that they had more clutch material. None the less, my 6 speed started slipping 6th when I added the EZ at about 20k miles. 5th and 6th slipped with ease when I added the 275 injectors. I eventually installed the Southbend MU 1947 Con. OFE and added a comp box. Problem solved!

You might be right, my 5-speed has the stock clutch in it (for now) and it hasn't slipped yet, I have a DD True Torque module and DD Stage-1 Injectors, and I tow a lotta weight!! We'll see how it looks when I get it out.

Tom

I only have a Comp on my '02 listed below - and got by for a year with the stock clutch - about 20,000 miles or so, then it started slipping in 5th and 6th when towing in the hills - and I'm pretty easy on clutches.

A new LUK Cerametallic has fixed my slippage problem so far with no complaint - nor will you go wrong with the proper SBC for your application!

The stock clutch in mine slips when the air temperatures drop during the fall/winter months. During the summer it doesn't slip at all. This is because the colder air enhances intercooler efficiency. 66,800 miles on the stock clutch, and I've had the Edge 3-light box installed since new, and the 275 injectors for the past couple years.

Yesterday the clutch slipped the worst yet. Had a new Nissan Titan V8 at a stoplight in the lane next to me that wanted some. Needless to say he lost even though my clutch was slipping bad in 4th and 5th. :D

Looks like I'll be upgrading to a Southbend unit soon!
