I have an EZ and 275's. Today if I floor it at 1875 RPM (in 6th) I get a second or two of 2000 RPM then it drops back to 1875 and climbs with the speedo. Is this the dreaded clutch slipping?
Yep I think it is called clutch slipping. I have to admit mine did it in 5th trying to out run a power poke. I got off of it and have had no trouble since. I talked to a guy at Kerrvile and he said you will have more slippage in the higher gears. Now I just let it build the power slowly especially with some of the loads I pull on occassion. Also when loaded I get rpms to 2000 to 2150 before shifting. I have the 3. 54 in the rear. I pulled teh 5er to Kerrville and back with no slippage. It seems like you have to make it slip it don't all the time.
Okie: Mine must be weaker than yours, it slips with no load behind me. I'm afraid to hook up the trailer... Any suggestions on what clutch I need from SouthBend? I want as close to OEM as possible ( in feel and no chatter ). I will not be bombing it anymore except air fliter ( as soon as I find one I like ) and larger exhaust. How much do clutches cost? Who makes a hobby out of installing clutches in their garage ? Dean, you warned me!
There must be a difference in the clutch strength on the HO's. I know abledog is running 275's, VA, boost module and propane on his truck. The clutch was not slipped even towing his 39ft Weekend Warior.
texas diesel, give peter a call at south bend, very neat guy, he will steer you in the right direction. If you want the closest to stock possible, you will probably be better off with the new con-OFE. But definitely call Peter
