My clutch has always had to be pressed firmly against the firewall for the truck to start, but now it has gotten to the point where I have to slam the pedal down, sometimes taking a couple of tries to get the engine to turn over.

I have been told that there is a switch that can be adjusted to solve this problem, what do I do?

cb parker,

there has been a few threads recently that have covered that.

the first thing that you should check is how much freeplay your pedal has. Mine stopped starting with about 1. 5" of play. The rod that actuates the master cylinder probably has a rounded out hole that will have to be fixed. Also check the pin that the rod rides on it is probably worn. Can be fixed easily with minor welding. you can remove the pedal by removing small bolt near the brake pedal that will allow the pin to slide over enough to remove the pedal. the MC just twists off the firewall. Good luck.

I recently had to weld the rod on my '97...

one thing you can do is splice those wires together that go to the switch, but obviously you have to be cautious about starting in gear! I set up all my cars to have the ability to start without pressing the clutch.
