Hey all, well I knew the day would come,I think my clutch is about to go (. )(. ) up. It's chattering when I let the clutch up and I can only start out by shutting the engine off and putting it in gear(not releasing). Do you guys think it could just be the slave cylinder or is it time to call South-bend?Also what model clutch?I just got my DD2s but haven't installed them yet. I won't put them in till I get the clutch fixed(dang it:( ). See my sig for other mods. I might add the E. Z. to the P. E. to make a comp. but thats all I am going to do cause I still have to tow occasionally. So I'm thinking no more than 400h. p. So what would be the best clutch as far as reliability and easy pedal. Any help appreciated. Doug

Update

Well it ain't looking too good. I just checked out the clutch real close,I've got close to 2" of travel at the slave cylinder and no leaks. I saw a good bit of dust at the small slit on the bottom of the bell-housing(why the **** didn't they put some kind of inspection cover on these things  ). It really chatters loud now that it's cold. I've e-mailed Peter at S. B. and will probably order the clutch on Monday. And I guess I'll have to update my sig. ;) about the stock clutch. How much $$$ am I looking at? Doug

FFutch,

The slave cylinder problems sounds like the fluid is leaking past the seal on the inside of the slave cylinder. This would not show any visable leaks. As for the chatter, it's hard to say, but it could be that the slave cylinder seal was leaking back into the line, releasing the clutch against the flywheel and pressure plate causing them to over heat, thus causing the chatter. Just a thought.

I bought the mu 0090 con "o" from SBC for my 97, the price plus shipping was $627. I have not put it in yet so I don't now how is acts. it's rated for 400+ HP according to Peter. As for the not releasing and chatter could be slave cylinder.

My stocker quit releasing and it was the pressure plate, just plain destroyed. (stock hp) Bolts were broken off, looked like they were over torqued from the factory. It was that way when I bought it boys, not my driving!

Second time the clutch quit releasing it was the slave cyl.

Cheap from Napa, easy to fix.

How much for the Mitchell's clutch? For the stock clutch? etc? Does that include pressure plate? Did you resurface the flywheel?

I got the full comp version for pulling, new flywheel with several other options. Just call them, it hurts to talk about it!

Way more than $400, if you are not going to pull, it is overkill.

No Mcleod or Luk parts in them, all custom built, right in Ohio.

They do sell other clutches for trailer toating, but i was not interested in them.

Mine's chattering, so it's due. But I'm not pulling, just trailer towing. Got the number to call?

Boy, it's a shame when you sink seven grand in a truck and the next thing you know, it needs a clutch, ain't it?:D

Try 26,000 and it quit 400 miles from home. Then shift with out the clutch to get home, ruin 3rd gear synchros, fix clutch, 3rd grinds, have to double clutch. Clutch dies 6 months later, get transmission fixed, another clutch, fully splined shaft. 4 months late clutch quits, get a double disc, larger input shaft, here I am now!

It can always get worse!

New clutch is on it's way

Ordered it Monday, hopefully it'll be here tommorow or Thusday. I'm already missing my rig BIGTIME :( . Two days and no diesel fumes,I think I'm having withdrawls;) :) . Got the MU0090con-o,$600 and some change. Peter said it'll handle up 400+h. p. which is all I plan on. I'm going to go ahead and install the dd2s while it's down. It looks like access will be easier at the back of the engine with the transmission out and the engine lowered down some. Got the transmission ready to come out. Will use the big trans. jack from work(trans. and t-case is a monster). Pretty easy job so far(Glad I don't have a Phord;) ). Will keep ya'll posted and thanks for the info. I don't think it's the slave cause I checked travel and it's at 1. 5-2"and holds. Doug
