My clutch had started chattering, and it was sticking - pushing the clutch in to shift was almost the same as not using it to shift. Well, I was thinking I'd do one more trip (car hauling). So yesterday I'm on my way to the dealership to pick up a vehicle, I get to the end of the offramp and stop for the light. The clutch stuck real bad, I could hear it clunk when I hit the brakes. Well, when I started to go, the poor clutch just let go and I wasn't going to move anymore. I got a towtruck and dropped the trailer off, then dropped the truck off at my house. I got it all apart (4 1/2 hours, not too bad) and the center section of the clutch disk is completely seperated from the rest of the disk, there's a broken spring and lots of metal pieces. The flywheel and pressure plate don't look too bad, some glazing in spots.
So I'm thinking about the South Bend Clutch MU 0090 Con. O, seems to be praised here. One thing I'd like to know is how is the peddle pressure compared to stock? And does it sound like a good clutch for my application (hauling up to 24,000 pounds, truck is stock for now). Thanks ahead of time.
