gentlemen,

a question concerning a CNG conversion. PDI in St. George, Utah is advertising a turnkey conversion to CNG claiming substantial money savings for fuel consumption and no power loss. is this legit and what is invoved???

Yes it can be done, fuel is cheaper, but pricey to change over it. Power can be the same, ya its legit, but you loose two foot of bed for the tank!!!!

Don't forget, lack of filling stations too. I don't know why someone doesn't make a kit that uses 2 or 3 standard 33lb forklift tanks. This way you could just swap and go at any gas supplier/forklift dealer/etc.

Compressed natural gas -CNG -is a whole lot different than LPG or liquid Propane gas about a thousand pounds different !

Had a gasser that ran on both gas and CNG as a company work truck. Ran ok on both but not great. Timing is a lot different for both fuels, so performance suffers with each, when timing is set in the middle, to have both fuels work. Maybe technology has improved. I think a diesel works better on CNG, though. The only real problem I had with it was range. Ran out of CNG everyday, so switched back to gas everyday. Range was my biggest disappointment with the dual fuel setup. #@$%!

There are several manufactures that make kits to convert gas engines to natural gas... . you fully remove the gasoline equipment and install a fuel system for natural gas..... Those manufactures that used to build the kits for propane now build a turn key package for natural gas... BTW a complete software update for those engines that are computer controlled so they run as good as or better than gasoline engines.....

A gallon equivalent of natural gas to gasoline is something like 80 cents per gallon...

There are currently several auto manufactures making CNG for California and more are heading that way..... and a company in the Netherlands manufactures a home charging station that is now for sale in CA... . the range on the cars is about 240 miles and it takes almost 6 hours to charge the tank... . the tank pressure based on the standard that the kit is built for is either 3,000 psi or 3,600 psi...

Both Honda and VW have a very nice car set up for it... and I've seen a lot of Chevrolet's in CA running state plates with CNG. .

Cummins has had this for years but the engine has to be beefed up rods & pistons etc,CNG is hard on the engine, it still uses diesel to fire engine. They use them in pumps & generators. All this according to my Cummins West Rep.
