I have a 10lb Co2 tank with a regulator and need to know if Co2 will operate air horns? I am trying to save a little money by not having to purchase a quality air compressor.

Compressed air is much cheaper than CO2.

Use a compressed air tank such as one for scuba diving or for SCBA (Self contained breathing aparatus)

Fire depts use SCBA units - and upgrade from time to time. Most have gotten rid of or don't use the steel containers anymore and may have them lying around. You could get one for a donation, and for a donation/friendship with your local volunteer fire dept get it filled there as long as it is hydrotested. Your CO2 tank will need to be hydroed every (I think 5 or 7??) years too. I pay $15 to get the tanks hydroed.

Use an oxygen/CO2 regulator - adaptors can be bought at any good welding supply store.

Depending on the tank you could have between 2000 - 4500 lbs pressure in that tank.

That's what I do - but my donation is my time.

A dude that attended TiM '04 had a nitrogen tank setup for his train horns...

There wasn't anything low-toned or quiet about his horns...

Nitrogen. . (N2) doesn't effect tonal quality.

GEEZ Yo Hoot! Don't you know that a meteor could fall out of the sky and knock off that regulator and cause the tank to put a dent in your fender? :D That's a darn clean installation!

I gave up on an onboard compressor and just got a couple of air tanks from a 4x4 store mounting a fill valve under the hood (near the garage compressor). If you "snoop" all your connections, you'll have a tight system that will last for a VERY LONG TIME! Unless you run train horns that are required to be honked at every crossing.

Look in Hoots signature, he's got a listing for pictures but here are the horn pictures he has.

The first time hoot posted about his horns I though yeah thats cool and he did a very nice job with the lever and the install but after hearing them in Muncie, I need some of those!
