Ooooooooo... ...

Ahhhhhh.....

The posterboy for one of the finest looking F-350 DRW's has brought home a Cummins? And he's looking to bomb it too? Boy... CJ, you could find yourself at the crossroads soon?

Let us know what ya think once ya get her broke in and set up. Granted she likely won't have the curb weight of your deck'd PSD. (that's truly one of the nicest of seen)

I'm very please with my ETH/DEE, lot's of little accessories, but the only performance stuff, relocated the drip bottle, DD's TTM and Dynomax's new 4" ultraflo muffler & Tailpipe kit, still using the OEM downtube. Stratapores and Royal Triton QLT, no K&N, silencer ring still in, air silencer on stock airbox still there too. Great milage (17cty/19+hwy @ 80mph) great power, paints a little thin and the functioning of the A/C's been finiky at startup lately. Oh yeah, and it's not as menacing looking as your F350, but people still get out of the left hand lane when I come up on them at speed.

What is the scoop on the Van Aacken's? I have one plugged in right now until Monday courtesy of DIS, unless I want to keep it. It sure woke this truck up. It did exactly what the chip did for the PSD. I wouldn't mind a little more... the clutch is slipping yet!!... CJ

well, My clutch needs help with my BOMBs
275 injectors and the Diablo Power Puck are the main fueling mods. Air mods are a K&N filter, boost module and elbow, and a straight piped exhaust. Not to worry about getting whooped by a stock ford or chevy unless it is a Mustang Cobra or a 'Vette.

I was pleasantly surprised to see you had
bought a Dodge CTD! I realize in the past
you said you had bought the Ford PSD
because of it being a crewcab. In a way
I am glad you still have the PSD so you
can keep the "Dodge side" updated on what
is true and what is false about the PSD's.
I know you have helped to answer alot of
my questions!

BTW, as the other members already told you
Mark Chapple at TST is a great guy to do
business with! He has helped me ALOT over
the last five years! I would recommend
his products to anyone!

Good luck on the "BOMBING" Cobrajet!!

hey CJ. . your ol buddy HVAC can sell ya most of what your going to need... second the above about a waste of big $$ on stacking boxes on the ETH [as our VP pumps will not go past the factory setting]. . stay with the EZ and what ever size injectors you want [available thru HVAC]. . the K&N is # RE0880 available thru HVAC or Summit. . the snorkle is the psycotty air or referred to the PSA ,again available thru Nowel the VanA box is less than the EZ in performance. . also Lawrence at DD sells his version of the EZ with fewer ° of timing

As far as air filters go, some people use a K&N RE 0880 (I think that's the right part number) open element. Then there is the Psychotty(sp?) which I believe uses the same element but draws air from the cowl area through a hole you cut in the fire wall. I understand the Psychotty makes the turbo louder and lowers EGT's some.

Congrats CJ!

First things first. Get rid of that Resonator and Muffler and let that baby breathe!! Get you some sort of straight through muffler like a Walker if you don't like the straight pipe sound. Try the straight pipe just for $hits & giggles.

My first Bombing Mod was the Hot PowerEdge not the EZ and it put a big smile on my face once I remembered to turn it on, as some of you recall. Level 1 will let your clutch live a while, but Level 2 & 3 will eat your clutch for lunch. It's no wonder since the stock clutch is only rated @ 650ft. lbs. I can tell you that with the Hot Edge in Level 2, my clutch slips at 60mph when I punch it. I can't wait to see how much accelleration I've been missing when I choose the right clutch and get it installed.

Get rid of those Banjo fuel line fittings with one of HVAC's Upgrade kits, still waiting on the info for mine. Are you there Nowel?

Last but not least, get some guages preferrably Boost and EGT. I think that Ted Jannety still has those custom 50psi Autometer Boost gauges still available.

Good luck to you on your Bombing quest!

Congrats C. J. ,

You mention you want to wring out the best mileage possible from this rig... stay away from the major fueling boxes(the scotch loc types). These are play only boxes and do everything but improve your mileage. EGT's shoot to the sky too.

Your best bet is get some big injectors. These make use of the fuel that's already there, rather than like a box forcing more fuel in. Also your EGT's won't increase very much from stock. You'll get to the horsepower level you want with either Diesel Dynamics Stage II or III injectors (II's will put you about 325,III's will put you about 340).

I tried the Van Aaken box with my stage II's and got nothing but tons of smoke, and no power gain. The Van Aaken is nice for the stock trucks or trucks with RV injectors, but seems to add too much timing for the big injectors.

I dissagree. I get 21mpg with the Hot Edge off and 23mpg with the with it on Level 2 and that is with normal driving. I only see EGT's get to 1250F pre-turbo in Level 3. My poor clutch!

Congrats CJ,I know how it is to have a PSD and the Dodge in the driveway, but we sold the PSD only because I couldnt afford both, but I think both are great trucks.
I think the Van Aakens is a good choice with the high output it seems like it would pull pretty well without clutch problems.
Hope you enjoy your new toy #ad

The Van Aaken is not enough. I ran my friends 2000 PSD with a Diable 78 HP chip in it today. His is a CC 4X4 auto with 3. 73's. Rolling from 50 mph with the Cummins in 6th gear he pulls me by about three lenghts to 100 mph. We went again at 70 mph to 100 and he only pulled about one length. His truck stays in OD at that point so it was probably a little more even. From a stand still that auto just gets through the gears a little quicker. He pulls about 10 feet at every shift. Nowel will be to the rescue next week. I will not get outrun by the other brands in either truck!! It really is kind of funny... when I drive the PSD I hunt the crap out of the Cummins... today I was hunting PSD's. Trust me. . its a blast either way... . CJ

CJ... if he had a 78hp chip, you did quite well. The VA has been dynoed at 42HP at 2200rpm, as I recall. Put in a set of injectors and you will have the power. If you are still concerned with the clutch, (those concerns have a tendancy to go away!) stay small. Have you thought about exhaust and gauges yet?
I am doing some last minute searching for a new clutch, then I will turn up the Blue Box a bit!

Rob,

I ordered the guages Friday from DIS. I have not been able to determine who makes the best for the money exhaust system. I want a 4" from the turbo back... any suggestions. I tried the Jardine site and he didn't list anything past 98?? Does he make the 24V stuff? I am going to be on the phone with HVAC on Tuesday getting the rest of my go fast parts. If the clutch slips it will get replaced. I played the same game in the CJ until I just bought a 2K setup which never slips. Should I keep the Van Aaken and add injectors and the boost module, or return the VA and start from scratch with the EZ products? I removed the silencer ring, the snorkel and installed a K/N. Talk about turbo whine!! I am flying to Seattle by the way... not enough time for the 2. 15K drive... CJ

Cj... personally, I like the VA... others would take the EZ. The EZ may be a better bargain cause the boost module is part of it.
We have installed the Jardine system on a 2001. 5 ETH in my driveway. They make it. It is an easy install... Big Bob did it all by himself on his 99... took him about 2 hrs as I recall. Removing old/installing new.
If ya want more turbo whine, look into a psyscotty, or remove the silencer ring.
Don't forget to check for tightness on your turbo hose clamps... I do that at every oil change. (11mm deep socket).

CJ

when racing your eth you might try something. i just got a g-tech and and i shaved a second off of my 0-60 by starting in 2nd gear and then shifting into 4th. by skipping 3rd it really helps the times.

CJ. . I'm a EZ fan. . more bang for the $$
Rob. . the ETH's have a spring loaded clamp on the "close" clamps, the ones near the turbo are like the Ferd clamp with the springs. . still need a check now and then... the ones on the driver side of the intercooler are not spring clamps. . they need checking much more often. .

Built by the fine folks @ EdgeProductsInc (EZ) and calibrated to DD specs... supposedly less timing (higher compression ETH should appreciate this?)and less smoke if you couple it with DD injectors.

32PSI/1041' peak EGT's, GOES LIKE HELL.
(my wife's is a whole other animal when she's driving the truck now... I'm thankful she doesn't have her Class C license and a Class 8 rig... EEEK!)

CJ, just a side note, I dynoed my 2001 ETH on the 28th. I have the DDII's and Practical Solutions boost module and my truck had 314 HP with 625 ft lbs. The torque might be a little higher, but the rpm signal was lost after 2100 rpm. I have 3" straight exhaust and a K&N RE-0880 filter. The clutch does not slip at all.
