Code 0500?

Just checked to see if I had any error codes stored and a 0500 came up. I don't have a FSM, so could someone be kind and tell me what that means? I had checked 2-3 weeks ago and there were no codes. The MIL is off and I don't notice any problems, but am wondering what is up. I did have the cold weather high idle TSB done fairly recently, and it activated the high idle for the first time yesterday. Possible that the two are linked?

P0500 - No Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal. No vehicle speed sensor signal detected during road load conditions. A vechicle speed signal was not detected.

Thanks. Hmm, maybe a new speed sensor is in my near future, while the warranty is still left. I wonder if spinning the tires without moving could cause this? I was stuck today (fresh snow) and had lots of RPM's and wheel speed, just no gound speed. I wouldn't think this would matter, but thought I would add the information to the discussion.

Shelby, this could be related to the fast idle. I'm speaking from a guess. I was running my truck this last summer in the driveway with my A/C on. While running the A/C, I held the throttle at about 1100 to 1300 RPM while my wife and I were talking. The ck light came on and when I coded it out, I got the same code. I dis-connected the batteries for an hour and the code went away. I figure that, (this may be a stretch) the ECM was thinking that I was driving with the speedo dis-connected. Were you idleing at fast idle for a prolonged time? Only a guess. How do you like the fast idle feature? Ck It out and let us know. I also have thought of having that feature activated in my truck as I leave early in the AM and would like some extra RPM on my warm up idle.

Turn on the key but don't start the truck then back off. Do this 3 times, leaving it on the last time. If you have any codes it will show up where the odometer is, if no codes are set it will show P-done.

I have thought about the relation to the fast idle too. I think one other member reported a code after having the fast idle done also. I idled for 10-15 min at 1200 RPM. I will be having the dealer reset this soon and talking to the tech. Have a good realtionship with the tech. I know mine was the 1st reflash for the high idle at this dealership.

Had dealer clear today

Had the dealer clear the code today. If it comes back they are going to replace the Vehicle Speed Sensor. I think this might be related to the Fast Idle TSB, we will know soon enough.

I checked the codes on truck at the odometer as described

and got this in return p pcu then ... ... . then got p done can

anybody tell me what this means? have not as yet been able

to purchase a svc. manual, as allways thanks a lot!
