We made it home!! It was 4:30 am and we got some sleep.
Thanks to all who called and especially JAlmon, for his calls and help. Cummins never did call!!!
It did start this AM, but shut it down and disconnected the bats to reset the codes.
Here is what it did.
It would get a dead throttle and simply stay at that speed. Throttle had no effect with either faster or slower speed attemps. This only happens at speed less than 60 and it was only in OD. The cure was to down shift it either at full throttle or push the button on the shifter.
We stopped to get fuel and read the codes. ---1693 and 0216.
I did find on the trip to FT. Meyers that the water temp and mileage on the OH computer changed a lot. Sometimes it would show 22-23 mpg and clatter like a 12 valve with additional timing and the water temp would be 170. Then next hill it would work harder to climb and water temp would go to 200 mileage to 12-14. These are unusual for this truck with the loads on it.
This made me think it was changing the timing oddly.
If it is , and I think it is, the VP 44 going TU, I made it to 67,000 miles with a tapped pump!!!!
We drove from Valdosta GA, to Illinois without shutting it off and tried to keep it above 60 mph.
Thanks Again.
Now to find the next VP-44.
