did a short search here on tdr and the 1693 code seems to be discussed A LOT. appears it can mean nothing, or mean there are more codes to be discovered with a better scan tool. do a search... . there's tons of threads about this code.

The 1693 code is a companion code that comes up when another code is present. I got it when I installed smarty & was told to run the truck & it should clear itself. It cleared out & never came back. I heard that it is common when using tuners to install new software [switching programs]. I tried out a loaner smarty from a friend & set back to stock... later installed another smarty from Bob Wagner & code came up. I was told that the computer got confused because it has seen this program before, but had to learn it again. I'm not sure what the guy meant by this, but that is what I was told.

The 1693 code itself MIGHT not mean much - it is merely a pointer to alert you there is ANOTHER, more specific error code set in either your ECM or PCM. The "3 quick clicks" on the ignition key runs a diagnostic that is displayed in the same odometer window here you probably saw the 1693 - be sure to wait long enough when doing the diagnostic to let it completely run, and note all codes produced. The diagnostic is complete when odometer miles again are displayed on the odometer.

Let us know what pops up... ;)
