Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Chirping noise...

I have an engine code 1693 does anyone know what this is for?

My truck has been haveing third gear starts since it got cold here and we think it is a transducer problem but we want to be sure of all the codes before we do anything.

I do not have any driveability problems that I am aware of but the code is there.

If anyone knows could you please help us in this situation?

Thanks,

Ron

I think its probably that BD transmission... heheehe:D

Just kidding, the 1693 is a general fault code that has many meanings. Its kind of the catch all for everyting that does not have a code. If you have somone around that can check for other codes (the ones that don't show in the odo window) I would do it. Otherwise don't sweat it. I would say that if you are having third gear starts and may have trancducer problems then that could set that code.

JR2,

Thanks for the reply, there are other codes that are PCM related and we just wanted to make sure there were no other ECM codes that could set codes in the PCM.

emjay answered my question in the 911 forum and it looks like our initial thoughts about a transducer problem might be the culprit.

Thanks again JR2 for the quick response.

Here is another good site for codes: http://www.autotap.com/codes.asp it works for all cars and trucks in the list.

Your code brough up this: Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth P1693 Fault generated in the companion engine control module.

Which means to me it set because of the PCM codes from the transmission..... good luck.

If that code showed up in the odometer window that means there is a code in the Cummins ECM the codes in the ECM don't show up in the odometer window. If you are using a scan tool and are looking at the codes in the Cummins ECM then there are also codes in the PCM.

When using my odometer to retrieve codes it shows both PCM and ECM.

It firsts goes through PCM and if there is nothing is shows ------

Then it shows ECM and, again, if there is no code ------

I got a P1693 the other day. When the screen scrolled to ECM there was another code. (Can't remember what) When I checked the codes it showed the ECM as being a no fuel sensor or fuel validation code or something similar. I searched these forums and found that numerous users have got this code and it essentially means nothing.

My truck was built in February of this year. Is this possibly something they added to the odometer later?
