Code 1693

I have an engine code 1693 does anyone know what this is for?

My truck has been haveing third gear starts since it got cold here and we think it is a transducer problem but we want to be sure of all the codes before we do anything.

I do not have any driveability problems that I am aware of but the code is there.

If anyone knows could you please help us in this situation?

Thanks,

Ron

P1693 indicates that a code is set in the companion module, meaning the ECM has set a code and reported it to the PCM (or vice versa?) Is that the only code you get?

You can check the governor pressure with a gauge. It should increase from zero at a stop steadily with speed. I'm sure this has been covered in detail here. You should try searching the web site for "governor pressure" or something like that.

emjay,

That was all we needed, now we know it is something in the transmission causeing the problem and not something related to the ECM causeing the PCM to set codes as there are other PCM codes we can work on. Thank You for the code reference.

The installer wants to make sure we cover everything from the smallest code on up.

There were other codes but I do not remember them and don't have the diagnostic sheet with me. If we can not get this figured out I will be back with more questions. Thanks for your help, this forum is a great place for someone who needs help.

Thanks,

Ron

BPINE, Is this a test?

You're welcome, Ron.

P1687 No CCD/J1850 messages received from the cluster control module

No test Mike, I don't know all these codes by hart and the site that Gary is referring to never gives you enough info. So what does No CCD/J1850 messages received from the cluster control module mean? This must be some 24 valve conspiracy.

I belive that means you dash board control module (aka the cluster) is not talking to the ECM..... does you dash still work??

Not to split hairs, but it's communication failure with the PCM, not the Cummins ECM. There is a TSB for intermittent comm failure on some models that involves replacement of the connector from the harness to the instrument cluster. Look in the TSB section here on TDR. It's 08-05-00.
