I did a search on this code and found that this is what it means,

P1740-TCC O/D SOL PERFORMANCE (DIESEL)

For the Transmission circuit diagram (Refer to 21 - TRANSMISSION/TRANSAXLE/AUTOMATIC - 48RE - SCHEMATICS

AND DIAGRAMS)

For a complete wiring diagramRefer to Section 8W

Theory of Operation

The Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid is used to engage the TCC which inproves fuel economy.

² When Monitored:

The Torque Convertor Clutch (TCC) and Overdrive Clutch (O/D) will be tested each time the ECM requests

TCC engagement in 3rd gear and O/D.

² Set Condition:

The DTC will set if the expected RPM drop is not achieved while attempting to engage TCC or O/D. This

indicates a malfunctioning torque convertor or overdrive clutch.

I have a Suncoast transmission in my truck, and this is the first "problem" I had. The truck drives fine, and still has O/D. While searching on this site, it seems that this code will come up a California emmisions truck with a tight T/C under certian conditions.

I am in CT, but my truck came from Long Island NY. Does NY use the same emmissions standards as CA? If so, maybe it will be something I have to live with?

I've had the 1740 code pop up 3 times.

Once before the tighter TC and twice after.

Every time I was in T/H, empty, driving at low speeds in the city. (ie, OD was never engaged)

I have no symptoms either. The transmission feels fine, TC locks up in 3rd and 4th, no problem...

I ignore the CEL now. It takes quite a few ignition cycles to clear though, at least 2 weeks worth.

I'm pretty sure that on the 04. 5's and up, the emission stuff is the same for all 50 states.
