The code #83 is what my mechanic pulled up on his Snap-On, OBD II code reader last week.

The problem I'm trying to resolve on my truck is the ABS and Brake warning lights have been staying on (When the truck is running. ) for the last two or three weeks.

How this all started: Driving in town at about 30mph, I saw my speedo. suddenly jump from 30 to over a 100mph 2 or 3 times, very quickly. then within a few more minutes I noticed my ABS and brake warning lights were on.

Due to previous experience, I immediately thought it was the wheel speed sensor in the rear-end going out again, so I bought one, installed it, and no difference. The one big difference this time compared to last is my cruise control had quit working and this time it still works good??

Do any of you guys have any idea what this code #83 means?

About two years ago I put on a set of 19. 5" wheels and tires that have about 11 or 12% more roll-out than the stock tires. Does anyone think this might be the problem and I need to get my computer re-flashed for the bigger tires? Since it's been two years and about 25,000 miles since the big tires were put on, why would it take so long for the warning to lights to just now start coming on?

I spoke with the service writer at the local Dodge Dealer about re-flashing my computer for the bigger tires (8R-19. 5), and he said he could try but wasn't sure he had the option for that large of a tire. He also said it would cost about $150, and it still might not be right. This was when I decided I would check with you TDR guys and see if you have any ideas about this problem?

By the way, other than the warning lights being on and the speedo not showing true speed or miles, everything else works fine.

Any help on this will be much appreciated.

TIA, Ray

You should start by getting the correct revs per mile programed in. It is not a flash. Go online and get the revs per mile for your tire. Give it to the dealer and have them enter it into the abs module or you can also do it with a Smarty or a few othe aftermarket modules

Typically, I've found it's a ground problem when the sending unit doesn't fix it... . I had one that would only work when it's raining..... The problem ended up being the two wires that go to the sending unit, one of which had lost contact... . Maybe what happened to yours?

Thanks for the input guys, and I'm still looking.
The local Dodge dealer has to have my truck all day so I haven't had the speedo. re-calibrated yet. I'm just too busy right now.
I have noticed another situation though. When I hook-up and plug in my car trailer, it only shows my ABS warning light on and not the brake warning light. ?? I disconnect the trailer, and both warning lights come on and stay on with engine running??
I measured my roll-out (102. 875" ), did the math, and I came up with about 616 revs. per mile. Does that sound about right for 32. 5" tall tires?
Hopefully I'll get my truck into the dealer for the speedo. recalibrate in the next week or two.
TIA, for any more ideas.
Ray
