Code P 0513 Anyone know what it means?

Getting ready to go on a trip for a few days, not towing. Started up the truck and the check engine light came on so I called the dealer and the service guy told me you can drive it as long as the check engine light is not blinking.



Truck idles and runs fine.



Came here and read how to read codes :-laf , anyhow I also did a search here for this code with no luck.



Anyone know what P 0513 means... it is not that I don't trust the service guy but it would sure be nice to know exactly what that means before I leave.



Truck has 5700 miles and is stock.



Oddly enough after doing more reading on this website I read something about the gas cap being loose and throwing a code. I filled the truck yesterday and drove it home 3 mile and parked it. So I went out and turned it and it clicked a couple of times. Rechecked for codes and there was no longer a code but the check engine light stayed on... . so I'll be interested to see what someone with a manual says the code was.

P0513 is a incorrect immoblizer key. (immobilizer pending SAE J1930 approval) i dont really know exactly what this is, but it sounds like a ignition switch faulty

I wonder if this may have anything to do with my Dodge remote start. Truck starts fine and the security system light goes off ie does not disable the truck from running with the key in the ignition.



She's going on the trip.





Went on google to read about immobilizer keys. It seems that there is a chip in the FOB that sends a signal to either the ECM or to a receiver under the dash that allows the engine to start and run. Of course if the wrong key is used the engine should shut off after a few seconds or not start at all.



Mine starts and runs fine, I drove it around block and no problems. My security light flashes as usual which should indicate that it is working.



Curious error code. .

Ben, I get that code every once and a while, go ahead and drive it it has never gave me any problems and went away,and comes back again . don't really know what causes it maybe some one will jump in and let us now.

My check engine turned off when I drove the truck tonight. I started reading through the manual again and found specifically in the manual where it says NOT to use a remote start with an immobilizer key which is what I have. I wonder if my remote start has something to do with this code.



If the Owner's manual says that then why didn't the dealer tell me that when I purchased the remote start.

Ben, I think they tell you not to use the remote start on the maual transmission is for saftey isusies,and mine is a auotmatic. .
