Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) code p0071

Just got back off vacation & decided to check for any new codes. My check engine light is always on do to my smart cont. that the calif. ecm doesn't like. So I check for new codes from time to time that don't relate to my transmission.

New code that showed up was P0071 which says Ambient air temp. sensor range/performence.

Anyone know if there is anything I need to do. Does the sensor get dirty & need cleaning from time to time? Could it be sensing to hot of air for some reason? Where is that sensor located? I still havn't got a manual for this truck yet. Have to put that on my Geno's christmas want list.

the ambient air sensor is located underside of the hood near the hood latch striker.
