Does a code P0216 always mean a dieing vp 44 or can a bad lift pump set the code without ruining the vp. Check eng lite coming on, engine stumbling at high power settings, and code P0216 is set?

It's an internal timing error in the VP44. Better start saving the nickels for a new IP - the lift pump may or may not be bad (you do have a fuel pressure gauge, right?)

Welcome,

Your VP is on its way out. p0216 is: Injection pump timing/injection pump error. It was likely caused by your LP, but it not the lift pump sending the code. Sorry. Fill out your sig so we can see what all you have.

Does your truck have less than 100,000 mi. on it? If so, its a free fix. Get a fuel pressure gauge for the next one.

Is it still running??

I posted before on this.

This past Jan. on a trip to florida mine started to act up. Dead peddle, clattering, then not clattering, poor perf, black smoke.

Got it home and was ready to buy the replacement, then decided to punnish it and make it go as far as it would. It is still running after 5,000 miles. The code is gone. It set it several times. Seems to run fine, maybe down on power. Mileage is back, smoke is normal.

May quit tomorrow, who knows.

0216 is VP44 death code

Sorry

check 911 thread "crank crank crank - no start"

My odo would not show any codes but dealer pulled p-0216.

Mine went while enroute DH back to Bristol, IN. Called Kelle, now at Gen 3 Motorsports Inc, he advised no boost the lift pump was probably gone, hence the IP would be soon to follow if not fixed very soon. Before I was done I had to replace both. With the lift pump gone and running on just the injection pump it would eventually starve for fuel and die. Restarted easily, but down the road would starve out again. Since then I've replaced a couple lift pumps. I'm on the road all day everyday, think I'll do the banjo's and a second lift pump closer to the tank supply. Must have all the confidence in the world since I sold my spare VP44 awhile back.

Cheers,

Steve J
