Code P2609...

I'm getting a repeated P2609 (air intake heater performance) code. I have an 07 5. 9. It only has 8000 miles on it. I have an aftermarket intake manifold installed. It appears to be properly grounded and secure. When it's cold I get the little "glow plug looking" light, then it goes out. The truck starts and runs fine. Is this a troublesome item on the 3rd Gen trucks? It should be under warranty, I'm just looking for input before I go to the dealer. Thanks.

The controller is not seeing a voltage drop across the grid heater. Make sure the gasket is in place, as the new engines ground through the gasket and manifold. Was there a ground strap you might have left off the manifold when you changed it? All connections should be clean and tight.

sag2, I am thinking of installing a grid heater delete block along with my GDP intake -- is it likely then that I'll be throwing this code?? Or will disconnecting the wiring take care of that problem, as long as everything else is installed and grounded. TIA

Thanks. I have the factory ground strap that I put back on during install. I also added the ground strap that came with the manifold after I got the warning light. I'm going to take off the intake manifold and recheck everything and go back to the factory ground strap by itself. Maybe that'll get it. It seemed to work fine for the cold start this morning. The 05 truck should also give this code if you disconnect the wiring. The controller still looks at the voltage drop, and when it does not see it it will turn on the CEL. The only thing you might try is to disconnect the wire and insulate the end, and then try a cold start. Not sure if it is a one or two trip fault, so it might take two cold starts to set the code. You could always wire a load into the circuit to fool it, but might take some playing to get the correct load. And be careful because the load would get very warm.

sag2, Thanks for taking the time to explain. Is this a code that self cancels after awhile, or will I need to clear it with a reader/programmer every time?

It will only self clear with the required number of good trips, so if it is, you most likely have a poor connection. A bad grid heater would tend to fail open circuit all the time.
