I have a 2004. 5 Dodge and on a trip a the check engine light came on. With nothing obvious under the hood and the truck running just fine I returned home. After about three starts, the light is out. Brought up the code P2609. I searched this forum for a list of codes but found none so I have to ask our experts what it might be. And if there is a list on this forum of trouble codes, maybe someone could direct me to how I might find those.

Mike

Guess I should have added it is an auto and stock.

Thank you J. Found it and someone else asked about this code... Intake Air Heater Performance. I may have started the truck too quickly but it was not cold out so I am not sure. Will motor on until or if it throws the code again.

That won't do it. I never give my heater a chance to run and it won't throw a code.
I would check the relay operation/condition and ohm out the heater coil.

Is there an OHM value you know that might give me an idea if there is a problem? Or am I just looking for an open circuit? I will check for corrosion or other evidence of a problem at the relay.

Most of the problems with the relays result from the feed wire geting corroded. That leads to the relays failing. Check the feed wire at both ends for clean connections. A bad connection will burn the ring terminal on the battery almost off if it is not caught soon enough. Enough problems with the connections and it will burn out the fusible link also.

Just had this problem 2 days ago. Only did it when starting cold put a voltmeter on my battery had 12. 7 volts turned the key on voltage dropped to 11. 2 truck started and threw the code again. I took it in to have the batterys checked 1 was a little low on cranking amps but was still good. I made them replace the batterys all is good now.
