Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Code reader

I bought a 1303 code reader a few months ago and went and washed the truck so thought I would plug it in and see what it reads ? It kept saying that it was unable to find alink to the ECM. It is funny because that was the usual comment that the dollarshops said years ago when they went to read codes??? Just the 1684 was it?or was it 1686?

Did you have the ignition key turned to the run position when you tried establishing a link to the vehicle computers?



If yes, then you likely have a loose or broken wire at the data link connector under the dash. If any other part of the vehicle's communication system were damaged, you'd have all kinds of problems.

I tried that / again and it was still upable to talk to the ecm. Since it has been like that from the factory with no warranty form the dollarshop in prince gouge! I am selling it for parts and will be soooooo glad when it is gone!!!!!!! Thanks for the extra info.
