Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Code retrieval on a '99.

Is it possible to get malfunction codes without having a code reader or scanner on a 1999 3500? My engine did the same cutout routine in the exact same place on the harbor bridge as 2 weeks before. The engine cuts back to very low power for apprx 30 seconds w/o any check engine lights etc. then comes back on like no problems.

You will need a code reader for a 99. Or take it to autozone and see if there are any pending codes waiting to set off the light.

The very late 99's had it built in, access with the key turning 3 times trick. All other 99's (most of them) require a scanner like 777 said.

Thank you and I will give it the 3 key turn try. If that doesn't work, I'll head to Autozone.
