Code U3017

Just came up on the truck tonight. Searched here and google and came up with zilch. 1300 miles on the truck in my sig. I'm supposed to go on an 1800 mile trip tomorrow.

Well whatever that code is, I cleared it before I left and 1900 miles later, it hasn't returned.

Welcome to CAN bus comm protocols. That could mean anything from an intermitttent hardware problem to sun spot activity to you turned the wrong knob at the wrong time. If it doesn't come back breathe a sigh of relief. For now.

When Monitored:

This diagnostic runs continuously with the ignition on and takes about 15 minutes to complete.



Set Condition:

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) engine off timer is not counting correctly and does not match other timers in the PCM. The PCM will illuminate the MIL immediately when the diagnostic runs and fails.

I had this code U3017 come up a few weeks ago. When I went to clear it my Actron code reader said it was stored permanently and could not be erased I was a able to turn off the MIL light. It came up again today.
The common thread between these occurences is that I had left the key in the truck and the switch was in the accessory position. I often don't use the truck for a week or so. The first time I still had enough battery to start the truck. The second time I didn't . I put a slow charger on it and left it for a couple days. That time I also had a system voltage low code which is reasonable and the U3017 listed as pending. Now that we are into cold weather I am going to watch the battery voltage when the grid heaters are on and when starting just in case I am having a battery problem.
If anyone has any updates since the last post in this threads I would be interested
This does not seem to have created any driveability problem and I haven't noticed anything not working. Another forum mentioned a possible software flash for the U3017 problem.

Currently,on Page 3 of this forum there is a thread regarding this pesky code. I had it come up too with only 3600 miles on the truck. As I understood it, there was a communication problem in the system. I was told by the dealership my truck required a Updated Re-Flash. This was done, and thus far it has not resurfaced.
