Hi Guys,

Just sold my 1st gen pickup and bought a 02 2500 6sp in its place. I love the truck! However (always somthing :), I have been noticing sometimes when I start the truck, let it warm up for a min, then take off, I will get a dead pedal at low speeds. Once the truck warms up, it "seems" to be fine. So I decided to check the codes and I found a 0500 and a 1693. My truck is still under powertrain warranty (60k) and I am thinking of taking it in to the dealer. Do you think this is a VP-44 and or lift pump issue? Do you think I will get one or the other replaced under warranty? Or should I be looking at something else? Thanks in advance guys.

Mike

The 1693 is nothing - it is the companion code.

The 500 is the vehicle speed sensor input. If the spedo works and the ABS light is off, then it is nothing.

Your VP and LP haven't given you any codes yet.

Thanks NPS - What about my intermittent dead pedal issue? Do you think the Vp-44 or LP will throw codes soon about this? Or should I look at something else?

Could be the VP, LP or APPS. Do you have a FP gauge? If not, get one and rule out the LP.

Reset the APPS. If it still does it, then probably the VP. You may not get the dealer to change it until it starts throwing some codes though.

Hey Mike. I'm still love the 1st gen you sold me :) I jsut got a set of PODS from F. Swanson today. I'll be installing them Saturday (next). No real issues with the truck other then a transmission line blowing all the fluid out. The same one you repaired on your trip here let go where the pipe clamp attatches to the trans cooler. No big deal at all. Good luck with the "new" truck and it sounds like your LP is going :(

You just bought the truck right? I bet the prior owner unplugged the ABS fuse to stop the speedo and odometer from working to keep the miles down. This would give you the 0500 and 1693 codes. After about 40 starts or so the codes should clear themselves.

The dead peddle could be a different story

The 1693 code is telling you to look in the other module... ... ... you have more codes you have not seen. Get it looked at with a scan tool that will see all your codes.

Thanks for the reply guys! I realized that I also have the dreaded 0216 code as well. Made an appointment with the dealer on Monday. Let's hope for a new vp-44 and LP! Should I insist on getting a new vp-44 and lp?

I've had a 1690 code for the last three years but only in the winter mornings. Just had a rough idle until it warmed up. This winter the idle is just fine but like you the dead peddle.

Went through the apps reset and check and clean MAP sensor, also disconnect comp box. No luck. Today I put back my original ECM and sure enough the first start threw the 1690 and 216 code. I think the CaTcher ECM was hiding the code. Time to check around for a new VP44.

Since you still have a warranty the lets get together and replace the VP party on our trucks is out. My warranty went out the window 6 months after I bought the truck.

If they have to replace the lift pump also I think it's the intank replacement only. You have to decide to go that route or replace the stock one yourself.

Good luck

AZPete - I will most likey be there in March. Either way - I will update this post with what the dealer does for me.

I am at the dealer as I type (they have internet access). I get the feeling they are going to come back and tell me that they found nothing and cleared the codes. I told them what codes I was receiving and had them put it on the work order. Let's see what happens.

Well... good news. Dealer just came back on told me that the injector pump and LP are bad - Yipeeee! Both are covered under warranty. They will be replacing the LP with the one in tank. They will have the truck for another day, but that is ok - new vp-44 and lp on the way for free!
