codes PO137/P2A01 what to do?

I had AutoZone tell me I had these codes. I just started a 4 month trip, towing a 14K toyhauler. I'm out of warranty and have had all the recalls done. My question is, can I wait till I return home or will there be a problem if I don't replace the Oxgen Sensor on Bank 1 Sensor 2? Also, is this an emission problem, and would it be covered under warranty?

Your cat might be plugged, it set these codes in

your ecm. Try disconnecting you batteries for 1/2 hour

it will reset codes. Works on my 05.

Wouldn't the 5yr 100k on the cummins engine cover that or are the electronics not covered under the engine warranty?

P0137-O2 SENSOR 1/2 CIRCUIT LOW



Theory of Operation

The engine aftertreatment system monitors the O2 content in the diesel engine exhaust. The ECM monitors the exhaust gases for oxygen content and varies the rich/lean fuel mixture of the intake air fuel mixture to adjust the system. This diagnostic monitors the status message broadcast by the Smart O2 sensor module for the downstream O2 sensor circuit. The ECM will set the fault if it receives a FMI (Failure Mode Indicator) message from the Smart O2 Module. The ECM will illuminate the MIL lamp immediately when the diagnostic runs and fails. The ECM will turn off the MIL lamp diagnostic runs and passes in four consecutive drive cycles.



When Monitored:

This diagnostic runs when the engine is running.



Set Condition:

The ECM will set the fault if it receives a FMI (Failure Mode Indicator) message from the Smart O2 Module.

This diagnostic checks to make sure that the O2 content matches the expected O2 content for the engine operating conditions. The ECM will set the fault if it detects that the actual O2 measurement does not match the expected value. The ECM will illuminate the MIL lamp immediately when the diagnostic runs and fails. The ECM will turn off the MIL lamp diagnostic runs and passes in four consecutive drive cycles.



When Monitored:

This diagnostic runs when the engine is running.



Set Condition:

The ECM will set the fault if it detects that the actual O2 measurement does not match the expected value.

I would not let this go on for long. Take it to the dealer and have it checked. Many of these errors codes can cause the engine to de-rate itself if you continue to drive it for a few hundred miles. If it does this, the truck will struggle to climb a hill and may start to plug the DPF and create even more problems.

Updatge on PO137/P2A01

First, I want to thank AHolt and Pfranzese for their input, plus the detailed description from dimetzger and Brandon for helping me on this Thread.



I took my truck to a Dodge Dealer and they replaced the downstream Oxygen Sensor and Module, which were under warranty. Researching further on my 2007 Warranty Information Booklet, on page 18 & 19, “5. 2 Federal Vehicle Emission Warranty 6. 7 Diesel Equipped Heavy Duty Truck”. “A. Parts covered for 5 years or 50,000 miles. Oxygen Sensors and Oxygen Control Module. ”



With 42K and under 5 years, I made it! TDR and you Members saved me a lot of time and money.
