2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Codes thrown with no symptoms ?

I am having a LP going out right now ( will be replacing it tomorrow ), so I am checking the codes once a day. And yesterday I checked them and got a 0500- vehicle speed sensor, and a 1693.



So what are the symptoms of the vehicle speed sensor having a problem ?



My speedometer works perfectly fine, as does everything else, with the exception of the stupid LP. If I was to need to replace the speed sensor, where is it located and how hard is it to replace ?

If you did a burn out, that will throw the speed sensor error. Clear the code and keep driving, checking the codes with the key on/off thing to see if the code comes back. If it comes back right after a normal (non tire spinning) drive, then check the connection to the speed sensor to make sure it is connected and clean.

For some reason my truck would always throw a speed sensor code. I would reset it, and in a day or two it would come back. Then a couple of months ago I started throwing concrete sacks in the back to smooth out the ride and the sensor code quit setting. I think it was caused by wheel hop from running empty.

I have been driving through some pretty rough construction zones lately, so that might be it. I will unhook and clean the contacts on the speed sensor. It is on top of the diff housing right ?



Oh ya, I haven't been doing any burn outs, I'm still stock on power... !
