The truck shut off twice today as if the key had been turned off then coasted 5-10 seconds and started back up ran just fine . I put the supper chips code reader on it and got the following codes and explanations but Honestly I dont know exactly what they mean. Here are the codes and explanations in the supperchips book. P 1693=DTC Detected in companion JTEC MOD. P 1698 NO CCD/J1850 Message From TCM/PCM. P 0121 TPS Voltage Does not agree with MAP. P0602 ECM Fueling Calibration ERROR. Can anyone transalate this . Please explain any obreviations as I wont know what your talking about, Kinda new to the CTD . The truck is a 98. 5 24V 5 speed,New lift pump with good fuel pressure and pressure gaudge, supperchip set on tow safe. The rest of the truck is stock. 210k miles. Check engine light comes on afterwords then goes off a few hours later. Dosent come back on till it happends again, Otherwise the truck runs great, no detectable smoke of any kind,no hesitation or dead spots in pedal except when it shuts of the pedal goes dead. ????? thanks Otis C

Just got back from the chrysler dealer today and after giving them the codes this mystery is solved (drum roll) chrysler tec told me after looking in his book that its electrical or fuel. What a genius. After some questioning about finding out whats really wrong he told me that cumins could hook up there comp to a conection under the hood and find the problem. So I took it to the cumins dealer and gave them the codes . here is what they sugested ... ... Could be the ECM or the VP44 or a wiring problem... This is why I hate new anything that has wheels. I have never owned anything that ever threw a code that gave any usefull solution. Things are still the same as they were 30 years ago as far as diognostics are conserened. Its just a shot gun aproach but now instead of 50 bux in parts its 2-4 thousand. I dont doubt that there are people out there somewhere who can put a set of codes together and come up with a logical explanation and fix just that. But I cant find them. I suspect the reason has to do with its more profitable to play the mystery game then to fix the real problem. The fine people at cummins told me its about 2500 bux to R/R the VP$$ I mean VP44. This doesnt pass a giggle test not even close. They also said an ECM would be about the same. They wouldnt speculate as to what it would cost if it was a wiring problem. This translates to me that they want to start with the most expensive thing and work down from there. I would almost let them do that if they werent tripple charging on labor. If anyone knows anyone in MI or northern IN that has there shi! together as far as fixing whats wrong with CTD Rams Please let me know. One more slice of wisdom from the dodge dealer and I quote ... one of the codes says its a map sensor and a CTD dosent even have one... OOOOOHHHK . I will shut up now but if anyone knows anyone who can help me out please let me know ,Thanks Otis

Im leaving out tonight from MI going to Phonix Az. If there are any good Tecs between here and there let me know and mabey I can have them look at it, thanx Otis

Otis,

Do you get the TDR mag in the mail, if so check issue 51 the latest on page 50 and 51 , check MAP sensor AIT sensor they could be dirty. I would like to see you put a volt meter on the fuel pump anbd monitor that all the time if it shows no voltage when it dies then you could assume ignition switch, fuel pump relay ect.

As a fairly new subscriber I only have the last issue . When I get back from AZ in goint to put a VP44 on it myself as the one on it from as best I can tell shows no signs of being raplced. (bolts dont have that on -off look ) Where exactly is the map sensor? What and where would I find the AIT sensor? I do have an onboard fuel pressure gaudge but when the thing dies out Im usually up to my *** in aligators as it prefers to do this in one lane constrution zones and mountians but I will try to look at it next time it happens. I will also check to see if I can buy issue 51 from the websight as I will need it to R/R the VP44. Hopefully I will be back in a week . Thanks Otis

Codes ?

Otis... . what a pain. From what I have seen on here these guys know far more about what might be wrong with your truck than 9 out of 10 of the Dodge boys best trained. I am totally convinced the computors are to get your bucks up front and then they start guessing with the most expensive items first and down the list till it is fixed.

This is the reason I drive a non-electronic, don't need the dealer for repairs,

fix it myself truck. Good luck... . R C :)
