Done the key trick came up with po463 & p1693, has anyone a list? this truck is haveing a unstable tach and acts like it wants to come out of od and back to third. im leaning towards the tps but any help would be appreciated. Harv

P0463 = Fuel level sensor Circuit High Input

P1693 = Turbo Charge Control Circuit Malfunction

Sorry, don't know how these would be associated with your symtoms.

You can get these codes and 34 pages of the rest here:

www.batauto.com

My manual says that the P1693 code = DTC Detected in Companion Module / DTC Detected in PCM/ECM or DTC Detected in ECM.

My truck has set that exact code recently. I am experiencing a lack of power and am having throttle response problems along with code P0500 = No Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal and code P0216=Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure. I am working on finding the problem now.

Good luck ! Thomas

Thanks for the reply im gona keep on digging hope soon we will find somthing I now have two trucks giveing the 1693 and then this one. good luck to you to. Harv

1693 means there is a code set in the cummins computer and not the dodge computer. You can't read codes from the cummins computer in the odometer window. You have to take it in. I just fixed my 1693 with a crank position sensor, but it was obvious, the tach was bouncing around.

Ditto

Problem is fixed here to with the crank sensor, tach is steady and trany is doing well. we also took the advice and changed the starter contact's, now the engine is happy once more. Harv

My 1693 code is beating me down to my witts end. I broke down and finally took the truck into the dealer and decided to let my warranty cover it . The dealer is stumped , they are dealing with there tech line and have a foot long list of things to check. They said the Dodge Tech service states that my truck definetly has a problem but they do not know what will correct it .

My tach is working fine but I do have throttle and low power problems. Hopefully I will know more tomorrow . Thomas

Spoke too soon

Just thought i had it, yesterday the codes were gone the engine ran fine today the same problem came back, loged P1693 and is doing the low rpm surge like it wants to shift but don't, fixed one thing thow the tach is steady as a rock, im taking it to cummins in the morn, ill post the problem if they find it. Harv:confused:

Mine is looking like the Injecter pump has been slowly going bad .

Every sensor and switch checks out to be good so Diamler has given the O. K. on an injecter pump because they are stumped as to what exactly is wrong. The pressures are good up to the pump but they are not consistant from that point on .

Just as a note - the truck only has 35,000 miles on it and I have used Red Line 85 Plus in every tank for a lubricant .

Thomas

Cummins Said.................

There ecm had logged that the grid heater had a falt, also that the vp44 relay had a bad connection, I just don't know I unpluged every connector i could find and tryed to make sure that it wasn't somthing simple, but that is what the results were, I sent this truck on a 300 mile run after lunch and had no problem we'll wait and see for we put that many miles daily so time will tell. Harv tarussell hate to here your pump is out you would think with the proper care you have given it that wouldn't be the problem, that what's so great about this TDR is all the info & help you can get since we all are in the same boat powerd by Cummins. Harv

Harv- Just to keep you updated. The new injecter pump fixed it. Mine had been going bad for a long time but I spent a lot of time chasing a low power problem and never knew the pump was the cause.

It feels good to have the power back .

Glad to hear that yours is doing better. I hope there will be no more codes for either, or any, of us .

Thomas

Glad it's fixed

Did they have any idea why the pump failed? That's sure not mant mile's to have that happen, the good part is it didn't wait until you where out of warrenty. Good Luck Harv

The dealer did not even know if it would fix the problem. The Day Star Tech Line for Dodge made the call to replace the VP44 because they were at a loss of what to do . The Tech line gave a two page list of things to check and all were in spec. They even dropped my fuel tank and checked the fuel lines for blockage but all was in great shape.

There was no reason given for the failure. I did not go into great detail with the service writter . He was just glad to get rid of me. I was not a pain but he knew I was not thrilled about having my truck there and I seemed to know more than him so he stopped giving me the standard lines of talk and just got my problem taken care of.

I have to admit it - my warranty worked like it should, I did not have a single problem getting the truck fixed once I took it into the dealer. As a note: My engine is totally stock and always has been.

I wish I had taken it in earlier instead of being hard headed and avoiding the dealer like the plague.
