My 03 won't start, It say out over night in the cold, (20 degrees or less). I went tout in the morning and tried to start it, it cranks, and cranks but won't start. I had to charge the batts, and tried again, no good, so I plugged in the block heater, after about 45 min, it fired up. I have never had cold weather starting trouble before, it has happened twice now. I replaced the intake pre heater on suggestion from a friend, and it had no effect. if the temps are a little warmer overnight it starts fine without needing the block heater, any ideas what it could be??

Thanks

How old are your batteries? I have read here and on other sites that the batteries must be up to the proper voltage or your could have issues with the truck. This will range anywhere from starting to radical ECM problems with the truck.

Just a thought.

the Batteries are original, but I load tested them and they tested great, The first time it happened, I put the truck on a charger with boost and it didn't start with that either.

Are you sure the solenoid is kicking on for the grid? do you see your courtesy light dim when it comes on?? you hear a good click when they do

I did check the heater, i tried it when i changed it, and it was putting out heat, the light does come on,and the relays do click, I had it put on a computer at a local truck dealer, they ran a test on the heater and the relays tested ok, i changed it out anyway thinking it maybe the grids were not producing heat, but while i had the intake off, i put the key on and felt the heat from the grids.

I don't know how to check that, I just can't figure it only being only when its cold, and not being a heater issue, any other ideas? Does the 03 have a fuel heater also?

Need to check the fuel presure cranking truck needs 2,100 psi to open the injectors. Problem could be 1 or more injectors returning too much fuel . to the tank

need the drb to montor the fuel presure crank cold . Test is to cap off i injector line at a time

Sounds like injectors, they can be intermittent. There are a lot of threads on here about this topic. Injectors are a common cause . Do a quick search and you will have lots of info. These injectors do not like extra pressure and if your Edge increases rail pressure than I would suspect one or more injectors.

Depending on the fuel blend, you can start to see fuel gelling as high as 18-20 degrees.

In our area we had a cold front come through that put temps in the teens for a couple days and we saw a Duramax and a 2nd gen gel the fuel.

It may be possible temps where your truck is parked dipped even lower than you think especially if there was some air current.

When I know it may reach the teens I add this stuff to the tank. I get the 32oz bottle and use a 1/3 per tank as a safety measure.

If you forget and your truck won't start then this stuff is better for a no start.

I was just messing around with it, and took a look at the fuel heater, i took the cover off it, looks to me like one side of it is some kind of thermocouple, or temp semnsor, there is power going to the bottom side of it, but nothing coming from the top of it, ( i figured it was at a temp to high to close the circuit, so i actually cooled it off by holdong ice to the face of it , and it never let power through). Now I am asuming this is the function of that item, anyone else know if it is?
