It's been a while since I've visited TDR. Has anyone came out with any new intake systems in the last few months. I am looking to replace my K&N system with something better. Do not mention Banks as I have already seen theirs. AFE, Volant might be in the running, any other suggestions or homemade contraptions will be entertained. Has anyone expermented with semi-truck airkits? Thanks Carl

My younger brother just purchased an 05 that had a K&N intake and filter. We just replaced the filter with an oiled AFE cone filter, could have went dry, with both AFE or Amsoil filters. I also suggested he change the K&N tube, to a cool blue hose, maybe when he has more money to spend.

If I were to buy a whole new CAI, the S&B would be my choice.

Here's a link to the product, I know nothing about this distributer/dealer, this is for info only:

Air Intake | 03-07 5. 9L Cummins | Dodge Cummins | Diesel Power | Performance Truck Products

This is the style I was refering to:S&B Cold Air Intake for 03-07 Dodge Cummins 5. 9 Diesel on eBay!

the very best filter system is the stock filter housing and tube with a psm kit and the new mopar filter.

X2!!!! I have to agree with this statement...

The stock box can definitely flow more air with this inexpensive mod, and with the new "double thick" mopar filter, you have excellent "cummins approved", filtration. Can't beat that for only $25 and 2 hours of easy wrenching!!

I have yet to pull down my "filter minder" since doing this last year. And that's with driving on dusty gravel roads all summer. I used to pull the minder down every week!!!

Will not argue or agree, however some of these trucks that are being purchased used, the stock air box is long gone.

I just happen to have the stock airbox, tube and filter off my 03, which I replaced with an AFE Stage 1, before I left Dishman Dodge's Lot in late 03... .

You pay the shipping, and my choice of Wheat Beer :D. Jess

here are 2 types of "PSM" type intakes. The name comes from the manufacurer whose initials are PSM and they designed and sold an oem, replacement cold air intake (filter) box that ALSO incorporated a hole in the bottom of the box to which was attached a tube that ran down to under the truck and behind the bumper that drew in additional cold air through the filter box. It remains a ver nicely made unit and is still for sale. It was also nicely reviewed as one of the best cai systems in TDR magazine in the last couple years. Others, here, rather then spending more money on more molded plastic, decided to simply drill a 4" hole in the bottom of the oem airbox and use various ways to attach a 4" duct or ABS pipe that then ran down ro under the vehicle. Some people even attached the duct to the oem foglight location if they had no foglights. For anywhere from $15 to $50 you can buy the necesary fittings and parts from your local Home Depot or other hardware store and have yourself a "Home Depot" type PSM type modded airbox, that flows cold air extremely well to your engine. Many people also replace the stock tube to the turbo with a DPP silicone hose, which are also well reagrded and well made. Here are some links, for your further edification, if you want...

If your under 450 rwhp you will not see a gain from a CAI, the stock box is the best.

I suggest stock box with a Home Depot CAI, Airaid MIT, and GDP Intake Horn, this is cheaper and will yield much better results than a CAI.
