“Cold Air” is a momentary requirement. Fuel atomization needs air temps to be 85-105F at intake.

The 2014 CTD has a flap to admit cold air under high demand circumstances (blend air otherwise).

See if you can’t find a pictogram.

I don't have a first generation, but I can relate the following.

Second Gen with BHAF. Compared to stock air box, slightly louder. No difference in power or fuel economy. Biggest benefit is increased filter area. There may be some loss of power in extremely hot conditions when under hood temps are very high over stock box.

2017 Mustang GT with Stage 2 Ford Performance Intake. Car is equipped with inlet temp gauge and there may be a 1-degree (lower, and remember I said maybe) difference in inlet air temp over stock in all ambient conditions. Performance increase comes mostly from new program, larger throttle body, and just maybe from higher air flow at high RPM. Has EO #.

There are better mods that can be done. They probably cost more. Then there are the smog Nazi's.

Your stock setup pulled cold air from behind the bumper. I don't know how much power it supports (mine was OK at about 225 rwhp), but there's another 1st Gen guy who made his own cold-air int that might weigh in.

I have been through a few different set ups on my truck, first was stock, then a K&N stock replacement filter, then a PDR "cold air" intake, then a AFE filter on the PDR pipe cause the PDR filter was crap and almost took out my turbo. The biggest benefit I can see with the current setup is space savings and a washable filter, if your stock I wouldn't worry to much about it. But if you want something simple I did see a little gain by cutting holes in the factory air box with a hole saw, the stock inlet is a little small compared to the size of the filter in it

I enlarged my canister opening like RWherley, when I removed my duct because w/my non-stock tires and bumper any puddle splash headed straight to that duct.
