Cold Air Intake

Just purchased an '07 Mega Cab with the 5. 9 engine. How many miles do I need to get before installing a cold air intake?

Hi DMBrady,

You can install one whenever you like. Just make sure it filters as good as your stock filter. You don't want to sacrifice filtration for better flow. The AFE ProGuard 7 and S&B intakes have superb filtration. We have them on our site if you want to see some more info.

The other thing you probably should know is that a CAI system by itself really is of no benefit other than hearing the turbo whistle a little better. The stock intake flows pretty well. Spend the money on an intake air horn to get better response and lower EGTs, that is the bigger restriction.

Thanks for the info. I am new to this forum but not the Dodge trucks. I have been driving a '96 3500 fro the last 11+ years. All mechanical upgrades. I am not familiar to the upgrades that are available for the 24v engine.

S&B is the best for the money and it also has good filtration... Just put one on my buddies 99 24 valve and he loves it...

Anybody tried the Banks Cold Air kit yet??

Sounds good but... ... ... ... ... .

Banks has always made good products but, pricey.

Don't mind paying if it really works like they say!

We've had fantastic success with the S&B line since we started carrying them. They ISO Dust Test each system, and the document is available for everyone to see. We actually feel that this data is valuable, so we have it available on our site as well. Also, another nicety is their cleaning kits come with an application that actually measures the oil so you know exactly how to apply the recommended ammt. for your particular filter element. Just put my hands on the new Donaldson nanofiber technology this stuff looks great , they come in the Volant air systems.

I have one of these systems, easy to install and there is noticable differnce. Also check Carson Dodge 101 and cold air package... both use OEM filter box and does not void warranty. Performance Systems Manufacturing, LLC
