thinking about gettin an afe cold air. 6. 7l. truck is completly factory(even factory exhaust) except built trans. will intake help anything with the dpf? or just a waste?
I threw out a whole AFE intake for my 03. I went to the upgraded stock air filter which I felt was better than the AFE. I don't have dyno numbers or anything to verify this but there was less restriction showing on the indicator and it seemed to pull better. The only thing I lost by going back to stock was turbo whine. I just got a new 2012 and I really like the quiet. As of now I do not plan any modifications. I did a lot of mods on the 03 and for the most part the biggest gains were in some other persons pocket. For my 2 cents worth I say it is a waste but I'm sure I'll be contradicted.
yeah i dont really want to modify at all but im in my truck all day and the mpg is bothering me. otherwise its an amazing truck. i am looking at updating to 1ton springs/leafs, i hate the squating
It'll help the economy if you buy one and certainly help your self esteem. But this engine doesn't have any soft spots (other than dpf and egr madness) that I can tell. GO for it and let us know how it works. need a signature for your truck too!
the stock is the best there is. get a psm kit for the stock box. you must do all of the delets and get a smarty jr to get mpg. also get a crank case vent relocation kit
It's a pure waste of your money. The filter won't filter or protect your engine as well as stock and will do absolutely nothing for performance, fuel economy, or your sexual prowess.
The five posts above me are dead on. The only thing you gain from a CAI is a lighter wallet and being powerstroke "wanna be" with the turbo noise. Use that money towards the deletes.
Then you need to think about something that will flow more air. Somewhere out there there is a formula for calculating how much air your engine will pump through.
