I don't have an exhaust brake on my truck but I have a question about EGTs when they get real cold during engine braking down a grade. This past weekend I made a trip upstate to see family and on the way back crusing down the other side of the Grapevine traffic was bunching up so I downshifted to 4th gear and let the engine slow me down a bit instead of using the brakes. Well, during this long cruising down the grade, I noticed that my EGTs got down to 140*F at the very lowest! So is this bad to run the engine down a grade at that EGT temp for a decent amount of time? I wouldn't think so, but is the engine even injecting any fuel at this point since the temps were so cold and just motoring down the hill? Just basically curious as to what others have seen in this state and if this is common to have EGTs get that cold with no throttle down a grade. Just fill me in for piece of mind... . :)

Thanks, Joe

Mostly thats a good thing , the fuel that would be entering the eng. is what would be at idle , so thats the only bad part , if you can call it that .
