Should I get the PS high idler kit or reflash my ecm according to TSB 18-019-01? Has anyone had good luck with the reflash?? That three cylinder idling kind of bothers me.

I just ordered the PS high idler kit. :D Should be getting it Thursday or Friday. I dont think the ECM reflash would do me any good down here in the south. :p

The reflash works just fine so far, last 19F morning, 800 then slowly to 1200, not cold enough to check the three cylinder thingy. I think the 3 cylinder is pretty cool, remember it only does that at idle. Sure a lot cheaper than a hi idler. LOTS of people have had trouble getting it to work. Mine ALREADY had it installed.

High idle

If I had it to do over again, I would have gone with a aftermarket PS high idle kit. But I have already paid for 2 (two) reflashes... . and it still has not worked. Now that I have money invested... . I'm going to get DC to make it work!!!! But this may take all winter!

My reflash works great! Took like 8 to 10 trips

to the shop to get it "fixed".

I live in Wyoming and it gets a little cold here.

It 3 cylinder idles every morning.

I will say this. The very first time your truck does

this on a really cold morning you are in for a surprise!

Somewhere I read that do not be alarmed by the

"slight pitch change". Ya right!

I thought I was going to come apart on me!!!!!

It really rattles!!!!

I have not been keeping up on things. Is the three cylinder idling a reflash? Texis Kid did your truck have the high idle reflash from the factory? When did you get the truck?

high idle

for those who want another alternative, TDR member Harold Bowers makes and sells a kit to add high idle. costs <$50. i installed one. works great. i use it a lot more than i thought i would. :)

I love my PS high idler!

It acts as a smoother for the cruise controll when on. you can adjust from up just a bit to 1500 rpm max. helps keep the engine warmer by uping the idle, and when warming for a few minutes, helps warm up faster.

Call me cheap but it works

Hello

I am still using a stick ruler cut off at 7 and a 1/4 inches. I put it between the go pedal and the bottom of the dash. I adjust it so it runs at 11 or 1200 rpm. It works for me.

When it gets "REAL" cold do here in NC I plug it in. I use a timer and have it set to power the block heater 3 hours before I leave for work. :D  :D

RonL, etal (and everyone else);

The ISB runs very cool on idle. Cutting fuel to 3 cylinders makes the other 3 cylinders work harder to turn the engine. This reduces the chances of carbon buildup in the fueled cylinders and the unfueled cylinders still warm by the compression stroke.

We use 8. 3 CNG and diesel engines and Detroit Diesel CNG and diesel. Winter means fast idle for all engines.

I'm not worried about the 3 cylinder idle, tons of semi's us it up here and it works great! Now just if Dodge could figure out how to make it work here!

harold bowers

you can e-mail harold at -- email address removed --. he has 2 versions of the idle kit, one for manual transmissions, and one for autos. mine works very well. within limits, you can set the high idle where you want it, but can't change it without resetting the solenoid position in the engine compartment. i have mine set to high idle at about 1300 RPM.
