I am looking for ways to bring in "Cold outside" air into my engine. A BHAF is fine but it suck under hood air. Has anyone done a scoop? a cowl induction scoop/hood? opened up the stock hole under the headlight? How about cutting into the cowl ( like the 2nd gens ) and using an aftermarket 2nd gen air filter assy ? This might be too noisy for me. What have you guys tried? What works? What doesn't? Shadrach

You could always pull that headlight out. You don't need it anyway, right?

I've been about as helpful as a three dollar bill lately, eh?

Anyway, being serious, you have a plastic tube that comes up from behind your bumper, I believe, and brings air up to your stock filter assembly. I've thought about playing with that tube, or making a custom one, to bring in more air with better flow. Worth a shot.

Otherwise, I always thought a butterfly intake would look cool on my Ramcharger. You could make one that you can stick the filter inside of and run the tubing down to the turbo. Not sure exactly how that would turn out. Might be a little overstated, too...

Shadrach,

More than once, I have thought about doing something like how the new Fords are set up. Cut an opening in the fender and put a little grill on it and totally seal the Old Smokey mount so it only sucks outside air. Then... there's a part of me that doesn't want to cut the fender. It would surely draw in cold outside air.

Aloha,

Matt

I've thought of cutting into the fender next to where the air filter sits right now. Then I'd paint up a piece of sheet metal, and put it over the hole, and remote control it to open and close. It'd be a neat idea. Turbo would probably sound great outside the truck. Might be a little hard to get it to look decent.

well, depending on how much fab work you want to do, here's how I did my RC. Granted it's a gasser (for now) but might shed some ideas.

Any of the mods are a lot of work for minimal drop in air temp. Pretty sure you would have an extremely hard time measuring any performance, mileage, or any type of change whatsoever by introducing ambient air directly to the filter. Just not that much difference if the truck is moving.

That itty bitty hole where the plastic tube fits the rad support can be widened to almost 4 times its size and will introduce a lot more air right at the stock filter mounting location. A little work with a sawsall and a BHAF and you will have more than enough cool air.

Gotta admit the scoops and rams looky pretty good though. :):)

Thanks guys Bob where is your scoop mounted? Any pix?
Max Why is the intake offset and not under the cowl induction scoop?
Matt How about "gills" from a 'Cuda ? or a supercharged Range Rover?
I don't want a "scoop" or duct pointing forwards. It sucks in too many bugs, rain and snow. I don't want to suck in "any" under hood air. I have been reading PSMBuick's website about all the research he has done on the effects on outside air to performance on turbo Buicks and his tow vehicle , a CTD Dodge. Keep the comments and thoughts coming. Shadrach

Shadrach,

Yeah, "gills" would be cool. The Range Rover ones are OK but I would keep it more along the lines of Mopar and opt for the Cuda ones. ;)

Matt
