Mine is on the way out on my 93! Took it to local napa and they came up with nothing. Can someone point me in the right direction? Maybe a part # to cross with? Getting cOlder here! Tia.....

Good luck, the pump is not being made anymore along with a lot of the parts. A Bosch dealer or Ebay and a whole pump is what I have had to resort to.

What exactly is the pump model??? This cold start relay is part of the pump???

I have never owned a first gen so I am lacking the fundamentals.

I have an extemely good pump shop just up the road, give me some info and I will call them regarding availability or for sources if you want. They may know of something or have a spare one in a drawer, you never know. They are a Bosch dealer as well.

Mike, its the KSB unit. A little cylinder that bolts to the outside of the housing and advances timing when the IAT sensor says the temp is below a certain point. IIRC, its not available seperately from the pump. There are 2 typoes available thta work exactly opposite from each other so you are correct, pump model is needed to determine which one.

These are a "VE" model pump, correct???

Don't want to embarass myself when I call Reggie at the pump shop... . ::-laf

Just called Reggie, he can still get them he thinks. Says that there are two differents ones, 89-90 trucks take one style and the 91-93 trucks take another. he is researching and will call me back.

He does ship UPS so if this works out I can hook you guys up.....

I told him that it was a '93 truck as that is what is in tobaccogrower's signature.

Will post again when he calls back... .

thanks guys. yes, im talking about the intake heater solonoid locatedon the inner fender. when its cold it vibrates and dosnt ingage fully. usally if its below 35* somtimesit will catch, somtimes not. truck fresright up either way, with a littlebrping, lol! tanks for the link paychk!

thanks again guys. i did get the relay from the local cummins dealer. with a little modifying it will work. the part number 3916301 is some sort of a magnetic switch. not the 4 pin relay that bolts to the drivers side fender. where is the sensor that communicates with the relay to tell it when to come on and off. im going to chack that next.

It's in the intake manifold cover toward the cowl from the grid heaters. There are 2 temp sensors in there. The rear most one is for the KSB ( German acronym for Cold Start something ) and the one closest to the grid heaters is for them. Cummins p/n 3918461. The plugs are different so you can't plug in the wrong one and the p/n is on the sensor itself. BTW the KSB solenoid that is mounted on the pump is sold under Cummins p/n 3802205. Sorry I don't know the Bosch p/n of hand. It would probably be less money.

Here is a picture of 3916301 ( 2 used )
