My 99 does'nt start as good as it did last winter, and has not gone into the "drop 3 cyl. mode" either. :{ No idle up either.

Could it be a simple thing as a sensor, or is it much more serious? TIA for any suggestions.

2004?

You have a 2004? You got me on that one. I am assuming you had it programmed (enabled) for 3 cyl. Idle? There is also a cold weather flash that is specific to cold weather starting on CTD's at least to 2001's. Don't know how far up the ladder the software goes. The Cold weather Reflash does NOT address the high idle and 3 cyl idle though and if it is done you MUST make sure they verify that the 3 Cyl. enable has not defaulted back to disable, as I understand it has a tendancy to do when they go back into the software. If Dodge, at anytime, needs to go into the software, make sure they verify the 3 cyl idle is still on enable.

Hope this helps. . . Good luck. D

1999 model

The vehicle that I was referring to was the 1999 model, the first one listed in my sig.

I had the the 3 cyl. reflash done, and had used it last year. I don't remember Chrysler being in the computer since, so it should still be enabled. The eng. still starts, but I have to cycle the grid heater about 3 times, when it is 20 degrees or colder. Quite disturbing!

There is a "Cold Weather" hard start reflash for that. Make sure you tell them that NO OTHER REFLASH IS TO BE DONE. If they can't live with that, move on to the next place. Hope this helps. Some others may chime in here with more helpful info. . . I hope.

By the way, I had the reflash done and no change in performance. Even in -50 (that was wind chill, it was actually -36. and that is what the truck felt).

My 99 did the same thing earlier this year during a cold snap - I checked everything out and finally did seperate load checks on each battery - I had one battery that was bad causing it - new battery and voila - by the way mine is real hard to start right now - I miss the cold morning louder idle thing. - my neighbors probably get to sleep later since my motor swarmed.
