The size of my rods!

NorTrac/Northern Tool tractors

sub zero

I only plug mine unless it gets well below zero -20 or so. garage at night, but have spent several nights in Wyoming without any shelter at 10 below and had no problem starting.

I was using Power Service additive and kept the radiator AWAY from the prevailing breeze.

Only time it hasn't started was only 8 degrees out and wouldn't start for hours - Then I remembered that there are two (2) batteries... one was DIRT - Dead Right There.

It was minus 63 F below zero about 15 miles from my home two weeks ago. zero degree weather and below is very common in Cache Valley - No. Utah.

No problems starting and rarely ever plugged in.

Plug and Chug

I would like to plug my pick-up in, but the block heater has been DOA since I bought my truck, and I'm lazy :D On my other trucks, the heater sure is nice!

When I'm at work it's plugged in all the time. The whole 12 hr shift.

At home, I plug it in if it's 40 or lower. I have it plugged in now (10pm) and I'll be leaving at 5am.

On night shift, I'll plug it in 2 or 3 hours before I leave.

Funny thing is, the way the wind blows seems to affect the heat the block heater makes. If it's blowing on the front end, it's not as warm as it should be.

I very rarly plug mine in. I have started the 99 below zero without the heaters after sitting over night, cycled the heaters once and it fired right up:D

I live in the Az desert, but we can get down in the teens. My truck is 8 years old and the heater has never been plugged in.

The coldest startup for my truck (2nd winter) has been at about +10F, in the mountains. The coldest startup at home was +20F unplugged which is about the coldest it has been at 7:15am this winter.

The first winter I had my rig I plugged in quite a bit. Well as the newness wears off and the dedication has wanes a bit, my lazy tutu has only plugged in maybe 5 times all winter. But it just hasn't been that cold so why bother? Besides, I'm protected by the A brand stuff :)

I plug it in when ever it gets below 40 degrees. I leave it plugged in all night. Not sure how much electricity I'm wasting, but do like the faster heater action in the morning. I figure there is no harm in "over using" the block heater.

BTW, I live in the south.
