We've been thinking of the Dakotas and Wyoming, don't see much BS in the news happening there.
This year we're planning on a few camping trips to that region so we can ck it out.

Been in Minot a few times as the daughter and son in law are there military related. Not a bad area (no Costco tho, nearest one in Fargo). Only about 3 parks around and they know it (read expensive). One of the weirdest things is they do not sell coffee in cans as they are all bags. Nearest Sam's Club is in Bismarck. There is a Flying J in Minot although quite expensive. They had a tornado in Williston that took out an RV park last year. The hospital there is nothing to write home about care wise. They also get hail in Minot and the surrounding area with not much refuge for people without carports/garages etc. Just a heads up from someone that's been there.

I looked all over the western states before retiring and wound up staying in Commie Ca. Reason? You can't beat the climate and getting older means you need to have emergency medical care nearby. At least within 30 minutes driving or 15 for an ambulance. You might not survive a serious heart attack but anything else you have a chance. Hate the taxes, fuel prices and registration fees but we found a nice community in the foothills (that has a hospital) is still fairly redneck and people wave at you with all five fingers. My county has no traffic lights and property values are reasonable. But we do have to contend with Ca. laws. I'm in one of two Ca. counties that does not have to smog vehicles annually. That may change with the new Commie governor but it might also stay the same since he probably doesn't even know this county is in his state. Just don't expect to find a good paying job here. Mostly service jobs for tourists. Probably more places like this in the west if you look away from the big cities. Most big box stores are within the 30-40 mile range and serve to give the truck a good workout and regen.

Oh yeah....you might have to contend with a wildfire but if you keep your acreage clean fire departments will save your home. The fires are happening all over the west though with the greenies stopping forest clearance. Something our Native Americans did for thousands of years. Too bad they did not have the government to run their lives. Oops..they did. In the 1800's we killed most of them off. Just sayin'.

colorado 30 years ago was a red cowboy state. now its the opposite. plastic bag bans, bans on straws, dna tests on dog poo and other insanity. and government sneaking up on us from all directions. :(
DNA on dog poop? California's economy is based on fleecing the wealthy tax- wise to the point they're leaving aside from those in Beverly Hills.
Not a huge fan of Brown, but we will miss him in the coming Taxsome dynasty.

I remember this coming up. Cant remember what came of it. May be a law or may have wanted to make it a law here. So they could test poo for dna then track down the offending dog since so many of these dog lovers let their dogs (or should I say children since that seems to be what so many of them call them today here) squat anywhere and everywhere and wont clean up after it. As is the case in many places I suspect but there are trails here that we wont go on because there is so much of the stuff. The ones that really get me are the ones will clean it up by putting it in a bag but then they leave the bag right there on the ground or they toss it over in the bushes.
To be clear we have a dog, we like dogs, we have no issue with dogs just be a responsible dog owner and if you have one deal with the crappy part too, pun intended.

I hate to break the news to some people here, but diesel emissions-compliance is Federally mandated; it was only a matter of time before the different states started testing for emissions compliance.

I don't think this is a "commie" issue or left vs right; its a legal issue.

Hopefully the diesel emissions systems continue to improve to the point where testing becomes a moot point. There was a similar outcry from gearheads when emissions technologies and regulations were enacted for gasoline vehicles several decades ago. Nowadays, gasoline emissions controls are relatively refined and proven and I hardly hear anyone complain about those regulations.

Federal emmisons are fact of life. Problem is when the state decides to use the "enhanced" California standards when everything was only built to Federal standards.

comrades! anyone have any info on the " gift " democrat john hickenlooper forced on us in colorado - adopting california emission standards on this state? i have heard this will impact diesels more than gassers. what about buying or selling a new/used vehicle? what about vehicles brought here from other states? will they be unsellable etc. in colorado? lived here for over 30 years. now considering wyoming. cheers!

You just now noticed how Enviro-Wacko Colorado is and has been?

The first clue should have been all the B.S. of calling the mined out mountains "pristine". It's not even a bad joke as you have a real possibility of falling down an abandoned mine shaft wandering around so-called pristine mountain areas...

Arizona actually dropped out of that nonsense. You know AZ hypocrites, having the tighter CA new vehicle emissions standards, had/have the Barrett Jackson classic car auctions and some of those "classics" make a modern gross polluter look clean. Look to CA for standards as worst case on how used a federal ( former/common name: 49 state) vehicle has to be before you can bring it into the state. New vehicles will have to have the CA or equivalent emissions label.

Anyway you can thank the "Lodging Tax" passed around the early 90's and non-stop promotion of Colorado as a retirement state, etc for the new arrivals only: passed at the time in what was (being polite) a dirt poor state for everything outside the Denver area. The late 90's had the Denver area change emission testing with tighter testing standards for SUV's only. Just for their enviro-wacko feel good movement that first, as usual, was billed as s***ing on the middle and upper class. Except it included pickups. Do they still spray paint the rich tourists wearing fur? The new arrivals (over said 30 years) from this tax didn't change the enviro-wacko movement there.

:p I must warn you you are committing a Colorado Sin because your post did not complain about how it could affect tourism! Look you can't even print a body count from a Colorado natural disaster without using an entire paragraph full of worry about how it could affect tourism and tourism related business income. Nevermind the people washed away with the road - the missing road is far more of a tragic loss because it could affect tourism! Now if you rewrite your article to include how it will hurt tourism income it will hit hard and may make changes...

Nevada is another formerly red state, that is now totally controlled by the ex-Californians who moved to Las Vegas and Reno. I have to pay $40 each year to prove that my 2013's exhaust is cleaner than the Henderson air it takes in. Another issue is state income tax, which they haven't been able to get in NV yet. CO will get more and more taxes, 4.63% income tax currently. Wyoming is one of the few states without state income tax.

comrade donnelly - totally agree. even better yet, as of a couple days ago, colorado now has 4 genders available to choose from on the new drivers license. last i checked, when i took biology in school, there are only 2 genders. but then again im a 50 year old carpenter. here the e test for diesel is 60 bucks, and i gather it is probably cleaning the air as well....cheers comrade!

going to be an interesting year. with our new democrat governor and house....already looking to adj gun laws and maybe well get a state income tax

Arizona emissions are Pima county and maricopa. I have lived here for 42 years and have watched this area degrading to the calif. style. It will not be long before the Az. way of life is completely gone. 115 is a very conservative number, more like 117-120. IT GETS HOT. Plus they just added a $32.00 fee to be paid every year for any registration. But they tout it's not a tax.
Well I see what you all voted into office . Your on your way

That's the whole crux of the invasion of the interlopers. They will crowd into and take over the population centers, and the rural area voters get overwhelmed. I have seen this movie before in NJ, and now it's happening here in AZ.
