Just ordered a Combo Gauge from Geno’s and was wondering how you guys are making the connection for the boost side of the gauge. I think I am going to tap the exhaust manifold pre turbo for the Egt side of the gauge. If you have any pic’s please post them I am interest in seeing how everyone is making both connections. Thanks

Dave,

If you ordered the 1/8" thermocoupler (or if you didn't, get a 5/16" drill bit and a 1/8"npt tap) for the EGT, you can drill and tap the intake horn on the back just below the oil dip stick and zip tie your boost tube to it. The nipple for the boost gauge is 1/8" NPT. The intake horn is simple to remove to tap. Make sure you remove it carefully so as not to damage the two gaskets for the intake heater grid. Piece of cake.

I drilled and tapped the intake horn where the instructions tell you too - remove the charge air cooler clamp and rubber hose, block it off and drill away - all the crumbs fall out of the horn.

Boost Gauge

Just installed my Westach EGT/Boost and Fuel Pressure Gauges.

Used the 3/4" plug just behind the fuel filter (99 and newer Rams with 24V) and it worked just fine. No drilling/tapping/ or metal filings to worry about... . ;)

3/4 plug

Big Saint,

Is it the same plug that's on my 98. 5 24V? The one with 1/2 inch hole in it. The post after your says 99 and up. My gauges are on the way was wondering if I can use it on mine?

Thanks,

BFC

BTW I stole your avatar, hope you don't mind. Just trying to show support for my adoptive country, it was way too cold to stay in Canada... ... ... ... ... ... ... .

Anyone installig a Weatech combo gauge might what to look at my gauge How-To. Hope this will help anyone. If you have any questions or anything you like to add to the How-To, email mail me.

I would also like to say that my prays go out to anyone that has lost someone yesterday. May God be with all of us in the USA and in the world.

3/4" Plug

Don't know for sure when the new intake manifold was put into the Ram (98. 5, 99, or whenever), but my belief is if you have a 24V you probably have the new manifold. Just behind the fuel filter, there is a 3/4' plug, the MAP sensor, and then another 3/4" plug. If this is your setup, you want the first plug behind the filter. The other plug is part of the cooling system and you will spring a water leak if you use that one. Over the weekend I saw a 99 24V that had the above setup, but still had the old fuel filter.

Another point: If you do use the 3/4" plug, you can take it out with a 1/2" extension on a socket wrench. The only problem I had was that there was not enough clearance between the 3/4" to 1/8" reducer and the engine parts around the hole, to use a socket to put the reducer in. I just tightened the 1/8" barb, that came with the Westach boost gauge, into the reducer before installing, then used a socket wrench on the barb to tighten it all into the plug hole. :)

I installed my Westach combo gauge in the 'A'pillar and put turbo sensor behind the fuel filter in the intake manifold 3/4" NPT. My EGT sensor I put 'post turbo'. My 'turbo' gauge stopped working within 5,000 miles, because my 'K & N' Filter Charger oil gummed it up. I then tested my turbo with a mechanical turbo gauge to make sure it was not a turbo failure. I got 28 lbs!! So, K&N red oil ruined my $195. 00 gauge!
