New truck just came in with the weird tread Rugged Trail T/A's (have not driven it yet). What's the concensus on these tires so far? Concerned about wear/rain/snow performance for mostly on-road use.

Haven't seen "rugged trail" designation before. BFG (owned by Mitchlen) are very popular. In this group the all terrian or mud terrian is probably the most popular. I just took off a set of all terrian at 52k. Very strong, long wearing tires. Great off road. Traction on pavement not as good as some especially wet pavement. Decided to try the new Bridgestone revos this time.

I have about 200 + miles on my 2003 with LT265/70R17 BFG Rugged Trails. So far, they're OK. I've had Michelins OE on two previous diesels and was not impressed, especially with the snow and wet traction. As soon as Bridgestone makes the Dueler A/T REVO in my size and ply rating, I'm buying them. Had the Bridgestones on my trade-in for 6000 miles and absolutely loved them. Just my $. 02 worth... .....

I've got the rugged trails on my 03 3500 SRW. I like them so far on road. I haven't really been able to test them off road. I used them in some snow conditions and thought they would do better then they did. Part of the problem may have been that I really should of had some more weight in the rear end. I'll see how they fair in the upcoming mud season. I had BFG all-terrain t/a's on my last truck and really liked them. They seemed to have a more aggressive tread.

I have the BFG's w/raised white letters. Traction seems fine in the rain we have in the NW. Ride seems fine also. Not the tires fault, but it irks me that the '01 2500 with 265/75-16's had over 200lbs more payload per tire than the 03' 3500 with 265/70-17's. With the camper on the back, it has me concerned.

I noticed on my left rear tire that a few of the traction lugs don't seem to have all of the rubber that the rest of the tire has. Looks like the tire mold did not fill completely with rubber when the tire was manufactured. Anyone else notice this?? Look closely, its easy to spot once you figure out what I'm referring to.

I forgot one more thing. Apparently I paid $100 to get these tires over the standard issue Michelins. I loved the Michelins on my '01. I can't believe they charged me $100 extra bucks for tires that I feel are inferior to Michelins. OK done venting...

The reviews of them on www.tirerack.com are not too positive. You may want to check them out. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=BFGoodrich&tireModel=Rugged+Trail+T/A

Maybe consider trading them in befoe they get many miles on them.

I have BFG AT/KOs size 285 and really like them! Traded in the orginal Michelins, ride and traction is MUCH better! Great on the highway, corner good, great in snow and rain, not real good in sticky mud. And they look GREAT! I have a photo of them at https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=67651
