What's It Worth?

Prodigy vs. Sentinel?

i know many of you haul for pay with your rigs and i would like to know where you get your ins. i have been hauling for a company that acts as a brokerage for freight. they cover the ins. for a percentage, but i'm interested in being more independent.

I got mine through an insurance broker with a company called Republic. 750k liab. and 1k deductible comp and coll. Don't forget your cargo ins. 10k min. Plus if you haul for yourself you must have federal authority (ICC or MC #'s) and DOT #. Or you can trip lease to another company. My . 02

Actually cargo is 20K min. Liability is 750K. Federal requirements. Mine was through Progressive, except cargo.

I get mine through Brown & Brown . My premium is about $2100 per year for non-trucking liability and physical damage. The company I lease to covers cargo.

You probably don't want mine, 4875/yr for 750k liab, 1k deductible comp and coll, and uninsured others etc. 100k cargo about 900/yr. Sure got to do a lot of runs to pay for it, and can't run without it.

That hurts. I want to do this some but the insurance would take it all. It would be fun to do this in the summer when school is out.

Yup!

I was looking to tow travel trailers and 5ers back from IN but after I started adding it up, it wasn't looking like a good weekend part time job. I had a dealer who wanted to get me into it.

I was planning on trying to do some hauling as a side job after I relocate to Virginia. After reading this post regarding insurance costs,,, I guess that idea is on the scrap heap!

surely somewhere is a company that would have a plan for us part time, low mileage drivers at an affordable price. with the numbers i'm seeing there is no way to cover cost and still make any money. maybe i can be a greeter at wal-mart.

I got a quote from an agent for $8,200  yes that's right $8,200 for a year. This is for Progressive, 750K liability and 50K cargo. The down payment is $3,300!!!

I was quoted $2,300. They didn't care if I did it once or hired multiple drivers to run 24-7. So the old gears started turning, yes, I could hire some guys, but not in my truck! So now I need to pay for another trucks PLUS the ins. You can see where this goes...

it has gotten out of hand. My premiums have doubled the past 2 years. from $1800 in 1999 to $6500 this year. this is for physical damage at 100,000 coverage, 20k cargo, and 1 mil liability. Mind you, I have a long term clean license, and no accident history.

I am seriously considering selling the dump trucks and the hot-shot and filing bk

I have not made a profit in trucking in 6 months now
