Competition Selling my Puller

Looks pretty good. My rig is a trailer tower, and I'm making 347 BHP/762 lb-ft on the stock HX35W-12 at 1250 degF max pre-turbo EGT @ 34 PSIG boost. Your "daily driver" BHP of 330 is pretty darned close. ;) :D

Rusty

Holeshot, I know they're built using Schwitzer components, but not exactly sure which turbos are used to make them. I'll dig into it.

Rusty, thanks for the feedback - glad to hear the numbers are close!

Chris

That's my understanding, also. Spool-up time is dramatically improved over the B1, but you only lose just a little top end. I'd guess max flow in the 800-850 cfm range?

Chris

Two words: Don't bother.

I own one... I bought it (along with an ST46) thinking one of 'em would make a good 'bottom' turbo. That was until I figured out how cheap I could get a brandy new HT3B.

That turbo design is so old it doesn't even make sense to use it. The changes in materials, tolerances, and compressor/turbine designs since those turbos came to market would quickly make you realize it was a boat anchor. They're like 1970's vintage... yeah - that old.

I'm not saying that the HT3B is the latest and greatest turbo (they're far from it... )... but it is lightyears beyond the old ST50 vintage Holsets.

I've seen some different numbers, 600-650 for HX35, 700-750 for HX40, 850 for HX55. My Pius special was 1250 at a pressure ratio of 3 (about 29 psi). Now that is an important point, because boost pressure and temperature are significant factors. For example, what might be the cfm of my Pius special (now Ob1kobi's) at 55-60 psi? Where would it fit in the list?

Nonetheless, your efforts are quite useful. Lets see if more data can be found.

Any idea what the KSB-1 will flow? My understanding is 400-450hp safely, is that way off base?

If you are wanting to fuel a KS b1 heavily to make some hp, I would make sure to opt for the wastegate. I've seen a b1-2 make 470 on #2 with no wastegate at about 51psi and 1600 F gauge pegged. I'm confident it would do better wastegated at about 45 - drive pressure would be down a little, EGT's maybe down a little and I think it would make a bit more hp. The guys selling B-1's should make a point, that if you want to make a lot of hp, you need a wastegate to reduce the drive pressure with a lot of fuel.

ive got a little turbo you big hp guys would like to play with,i used tohave a hopped up pete with a 855 cummins and 194gk and gutted pump with o button and this turbo, i think its a little big for me, however its rebuilt sittin in my garadge on the shelf, its a bht4c,now i had a couple guys tell me it did not flow what i said so i called bill robbins(he built it) and he told me that i was correct, so anyhow it has a 5 and one half wheel and pushes 2700 cfm,i coulnt use it but you guys with them fire breathers could... maybe ha ha

I'll make a prediction here , in a few years the Duramax will be the motor to beat in drag racing. Banks Duramax makes over 800 hp in a road racing tune, on diesel alone. lest anyone forget Top fuel motor have aluminum heads

HORSE POOP!!! :-laf :-laf

AND THE POWER CHOKES ARE COMING TOO? :-laf

 Please :-laf

its not horse poop, the Duramaxs are coming along very quiclky. I see more and more of them at the track here, and they are running darn fast. Fords have a ways to go though.

There's at least a couple street trucks out there with LP turbos in that size range...

The Duramaxes are coming along very quickly. Consider that their trucks weigh less than ours, too - they'll be serious competition. Flat out (unlimited $$), I don't think the Duramax will ever match the CTD for hp or tq, but it is a lighter truck with a lighter motor that can be bumped to 500 hp cheaper than the CTD - I bet we'll be seeing more and more of them.

Chris

The reason for the Duramax’s being a good race motor is as follows

1 375 lbs lighter

2 1 inch roller lifters

3 bigger displacement, with more cylinders per cid

4 with after market rods and pistons an easy 7000 rpm especially with the breathing ability of the heads

How about longevity? Does the Duramax cut the mustard on the track? on the street? I know at the top o' the heap it don't matter (as much), but how are they holding together?
